Ok so off with school to wagrain in april holidays and was just thinking about clothing, in particular gloves.

I've only skiied in febuary and january so was thinking it would be quite warm when i'll be skiing so was wondering about what you regular spring skiiers wear whilst skiing in the spring.

Didn't want to fork out loads of money but something reasonable, preferably waterproof if not i'll just not fall over! )

Buying own ski boots
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 22 Replies
Ok i think it's time for my own ski boots!
Am 17 now 18 in september and it's time to invest. I'm not interested in manufactures at the moment but more the question of where to buy.

I'm looking at buying next season so do i a) buy in the UK before holiday or b) buy whilst away at a resort. Don't know what resort yet but will be somewhere largeish so hopefully large range of shops.

Another question if i buy boots in resort is the a charge for transporting them back as i didn't have them leaving the UK but will do on the way back!

Hopefully that makes sense

Bad Gastein

Post obviously got lost in the trouble of the other day!

Went there 07 season which was a dodgy one so not all skiing down to valley was available but all was open to midway.

Bad Gastein is split in two ski areas on either side of the valley which the village is built in!
Graukokogel (sp?) and stubnerkogel where its possible to access the area of bad hofgastein.

A 20 min ride away is the area of sportgastein which is the glacier. This had great snow last year so i guess its fine here all years. ( i think if you look at snow etc on this website it has some of the most in austria this year!)

We stayed in the salzburger hof with crystal and it was a lovely hotel favourite by far on all ski holidays great position just a couple minutes walk to ski hire shop where you could leave equipment over right and opposite ski slopes.

Don't think i'd go back again only cos i've skiied it all except Dorfgastein cos snow was bad there and by the friday of our week i was bored and couldn't be bothered to ski anymore, don't think this was helped by my ski boots hurting!

Nice pretty sights though!

Hope that waffling helps a little!

Did this last week on our last day but was staying in pozza so is an extra 1/2-3/4 of an hour but i would have said from canazei you'd b looking at 45mins tops.
Its all down hill.
Just one chair which is literally 100m long just cause there is a little hill but over then that no chairlifts.
Didn't find the snow massively better over there however it was really warm the day i went!

Since skateboarding fashion usually feeds to snowboarding and park skiing I rekon that in the next few seasons they'll all be wearing skin tights lycra on the slopes. )

This is whats commenly reffered to as an "emo". These trousers you describe are known as skinny jeans and certainly where i am many girls have a new craze of "girl boxers" which are essentially the same as male boxers minus the pouch so it is common to see girls backsides poking out but not wearing what you'd want to see!
It isn't uncommon for the males trousers to actually be a females trouser!

Hope i am of assitance

Visited courmayeur in 2006 with my family plus two others.
We booked very last minute with inghams as we had already been to tremblant over christmas so therefore was in a very cheap hotel B&B so visited many bars restaurants etc and there was plenty about!
We went during feb half term so obv more cues as in every other resort in europe.

Unfortunatly i was really ill when we visited so i didnt ski as much as hoped, so i ended up with the family every day who are advanced beginners so mainly skied one big blue run all holiday which was nice and had a nice little restuarant half way down.

Snow wasn't great when we first skied on the sunday however on the monday it started snowing and the following saturday it was still coming down!

I quite liked the big cable car up to the runs etc as it meant that there was no lugging equipment around and i went up to the slopes in trainers everyday so was easy to walk.

The main criticism i had was that from the base of the skiing area you could only get up the mountain by two 2 man chairlifts which caused big cues but the lift pass was the electric type thingy so no faffing about with gettin pass out etc just swiped the machine through clothing.

I would like to visit again actually as i feel i didn't really get to explore properly and as has been said the scenery is beautiful!

There are also advantages of shortish bus transfers to la thuile and chamonix if you do get bored.

Yes, first time was a bit close for comfort ended up with a cast up to the elbow but second time it was a tiny break!

Went to the dry slope today as we had an inset day at school and found that the technique of skiing came back very easily which i was pleased about, with it nearly being a year since i last set foot on skis!

Dryslopes are great to learn on because when you get on to snow you'll think your a completely different skier because its so much easier on snow! I've been three times to dry ski slopes generally a couple of months before going on holiday just to get back into and i've had two broken thumbs from it! woops
