Chamonix snow report

DougR, I haven't skied Chamonix so no first hand knowledge. However, I see where Ranchero is coming from. I think most ski resorts have a wide range of costs and, if they wish, establishments can generally get away with high prices (due to the captive market principle)

However, they also have to cater for seasonnaires and locals so better prices can always be found. For example, Val d'Isere has a reputation for high prices but it's possible to buy an espresso for a euro in the restaurant near the centrally placed Marmotte chairlift. In other mountain cafes, you may pay up to 3 euros.
Tignes Trip Report - December 2016

Excellent report Adders.

We too enjoyed our skiing in Tignes (2 days out of our 6 in Espace Killy). Still think that some of the lifts need upgrading, especially those on the way up to Aiguille Percee.

We've used Ski Bonjour in VDI a couple of times. Really good catered chalet company although we tend to lean towards self catering as we are not so compatible with the fixed meal times (and vast quantities of food and drink!)
Tignes vs La Plagne this year

I've skied both and would choose Tignes over La Plagne. Enjoyed the latter when we were there but the link to Les Arcs not as good as the one in Espace Killy and also endured horrible queues in La Plagne (30 mins +).

Agree that there is a lot more tree skiing in La Plagne and therefore more variety.

Happy Christmas all!!

We're arrived back home safe and well. Have to be impressed with Geneva Airport. Really busy but they kept the queues moving...

The skiing in Val d'Isere and Tignes is excellent. Nearly all of the pistes are open and there is very good off piste coverage in most places, although most of it is now tracked out.

The conditions are much better than they were this time last year. However, they are both high resorts (which is one of the reasons we either come here or Zermatt each Christmas). It's possible to ski above 2000m all day long. It was above freezing at village level and no lower than -4 at 3000m. Therefore it means it must be very warm in the lower resorts. Will upload a couple of pics later. We head home tomorrow :(
Skied a decent chunk of Tignes today. Beautiful sunny day. The pistes are in really good condition (although we didn't go below approx 2000m. I'm not sure how things are in Tignes 1800 and Les Brevieres)

I imagine that Espace Killy will be absolutely fine for the Christmas/New Year period even without any more snowfall.
Heading out shortly. Sunny day ahead of us with no wind. Will upload some pics later.
