Just back from La Thuile - we went over to La Rosiere one day, the snow over there was not too bad although some of the lower runs had got a little bit rocky. Don't think there has been any more snowfall since then.
The button over to La Thuile is not that bad at all, I didn't find. I have been on much worse. It's just long - I believe it is 7 mins. It's not too fast - as long as you are OK with the jerk at the beginning (I don't mean the lift operator ) ) then you should be fine. There's no real danger of coming off halfway along unless you are messing about swerving from side to side! |

I think it depends more on the airport/check-in staff than the airline sometimes...
We just got back from Italy and went with Crystal on a Thomson flight. In Bournemouth Airport, we ended up being stung £60 for excess baggage - as we had to check in boots into the main hold and they count towards your total of 20kg each. Also, they weighed our hand luggage, and one was overweight and one underweight - they actually made us stand there at the check-in desk and transfer stuff from one hand-luggage to the other so that both were technically under 5kg. Totally ridiculous, it did not change how much weight was going on the plane! Compare that to Turin airport on the return flight, where we had the same baggage going back - no excess baggage charges, and they didn't even weigh the hand-luggage. I have a feeling they didn't count the weight of the ski boots towards the total weight, even though they were being checked into the hold. I guess it depends on a number of factors - airline poicices, airport policies, whether the check-in girl is having a bad day, or whether they are Italian and therefore totally laid back about the whole process! |

If anyone is interested...
I'm back from La Thuile, and the knee held up fine. I don't know whether the knee brace is the reason, but it was worth it for peace of mind and confidence alone! Cheers Tim |

Just got back from La Thuile - on Saturday, I saw some guy coming down a black run, being dragged along by a sprinting Golden Retriever on a lead. They both then got straight onto the chairlift, the dog sat there quite happily, and did the same thing again.
Didn't see the dog sh1t anywhere, although I guess it probably will have had to at some point... |

I can't comment on Schladming, as I have never been there - but went to Serre Chevalier a couple of years ago in early Jan.
It's a huge area - even if the snow down low is poor, there is plenty to ski at mid and high level. Looking at the Serre Che website it looks like most of the resort runs are open anyway even with the relatively low amount of snow there at the moment (35cm at the bottom) - so given another few weeks it should only improve. |

I know what you mean - going to La Thuile on Sunday and the forecasts are looking wet and warm :( You never know, the forecasts could be wrong! |
