Just finished skiing for the day, been here for the last 2 weeks, which makes 11 weeks this season, just had another dump of 40cms overnight/today and here for another 7 days so I don't think I will be needing any evening classes just yet, thanks for the suggestion though.

PS I note that you have made 9480 posts to this forum, ever thought about taking up skiing to pass the time?

People who say a resort is full of this or that type of people need to take a good look at themselves.
If someone attacks the place you live and love, as happened to Twarner1, it is perhaps only natural to become defensive, but that doesn't make him a troll.

It is only an opinion a tad of over reaction I think.

Precisely. Look at the reaction Twarner1 got as well. Nuff said.

The reaction that Twarner1 got was 7 votes for Top Post - nuff said.

I saw the review below today on another site and thought it may help. I have to say that although I have never been there it has been on my list of 'to do' resorts as my impression over the years has been that it is a beautiful place and is not purpose built which is always a good thing in my view. If it is a bit posh then I don't mind that as it tends to mean there are no lager louts and if French people are speaking posh then I don't care as I wouldn't understand. Anyway here is the review I found:- Megève has to be one of the best kept secrets around and I would highly recommend a trip there during the coming season for all the family. Megève is about 1 hrs drive from Geneva International Airport. The skiing is super and caters for all levels from beginner to expert, and even in bad weather you can still ski as there are the trees all around. This place is like a fairy tale, full of Alpine charm, and is a pleasure to ski. The slopes are perfect and extremely well pisted, the people are friendly - even if you can't speak the language, and the food is out of this world and not very expensive as long as you don't get into any of the wines...do as I do (just buy a glass)! Not only are the lift prices cheap, but there are hardly any lift queues except at Christmas and in the February Holidays. I worked in Geneva last winter and spent almost every weekend in Megeve. During this time, I had the chance of meeting an Independent Instructor, through the Internet, and I booked private lessons with "Megeve Mike". (He responded immediately to my enquires, and confirmed my tuition on the spot which was a pleasant surprise). An American and fully certified French ski instructor, who has since made my skiing experience a pleasure. I was in an "intermediate rut" as he called it and he got me out of it - now I fly down the mountains. We skied all over the domain which is huge and all within view of the Mt. Blanc at all times. From Megeve you can ski to St.Gervais, Combloux, Betex, St. Nicolas and my favourite The Epaule piste to Chatrix. There are extremely good little restaurants where one can stop in for lunch and get out for less than 15 Euros. If you get a chance take the tour of Praz Sur Arley...its only 10 minutes by car and another huge skiing domain. The restaurants are very inexpensive in this little town and so close to Megeve that it is worth the car trip at the end of the day. I now fly into Geneva and book my flights far in advance to get cheap flights in and then rent a car (on the Swiss side always) to get to Megeve. When the weather is very sunny and towards the end of the season in Megeve, I scheduled a day trip with my Instructor to Courmayeur, Italy through the Mt. Blanc Tunnel....it's only an hour away from Megeve, on the way back you can stop off in great little Italian places to eat and at a more than fair price. There is also the possibility to "heli-ski" in Cervinia, which is only 2 hours drive from Megeve and where there is an endless variety of pistes in the station and in the area. Try it you won't be disappointed....but don't tell anyone!

The Salomon BBRs are pretty revolutionary.
Wow Tony, great report, very useful thank you so much. One last question, in terms of getting up the mountain quickly and without using buses or walking too far what is your preferred choice please?
Hi Tony, great report.
I skied in Serre Che once a week for the whole season and absolutely loved it, better than Les Deux Alpes where I was based. But I have never actually stayed in Serre che there and my impression was that the village/s was/were very spread out and not too good for après ski although I don't do much of that these days, so what is the truth about this and also are there any good hotels that you know of please?

a good ski does not make you a better skier, but a good skier will be able to tell a bad ski or one in poor conditions that's for sure.

Could not agree with you more Tony. The fact is that probably about 90% of British skiers are not good enough to enable to get the best performance out of a piste ski. They would be far better off to buy much cheaper piste skis and spend the rest on lessons. Those people manufacturing and selling skis don't get care about this of course, every year they will tell you that their new skis are the best ever. The two most annoying pieces of marketing to me are when they say a ski is "an easy turner" or "playful", ha ha!
You could give me the best tennis raquet on the market endorsed by Djokovic and I would still be rubbish at tennis - nuff said?
