Hi. We have decided to do a self drive holiday in the February half term due to the high cost of flying independently or else the high cost of package holidays. We've already booked our accommodation and tunnel ticket. However, we can't decide whether to drive through France, going into Germany at/around the Strasbourg point, or else to go straight into Belgium from Calais, and then drive through Belgium, Luxembourg and then Germany. Any ideas...........? Many thanks.

Buy Ski Mojo's. They're brilliant. My partner has bad knees and these things take the strain totally out of his knees. Before he had to pump himself full of Ibuprofen. Now he hardly takes one. We call them his "Gumps" ie. after Forest Gump's calipers, but hey, they're fantastic!!

Thanks to all replies. Only problem with Igls is the limited skiing, as one reply said. otherwise it looks great. I'd love to know where you found the £229 half board in Mayrhofen though Tony?? Find good deals but then they load on supplements etc. Inghams do good hotels in general, so don't think we'll find it a hovel..... Anyway, Hope you enjoy your hols too Dr Death....... Looking forward to it and might post on here afterwards the result of where we ended up! Thanks again.

Heard that Alpe D'uez is great as my friends learned there. I like Ellmau in Austria but it's low so might not be good in Mid-March - saying that this year there's loads of snow. I'd just make sure it's high enough. Pick one where you don't have to go up in a Gondola first thing in the morning, as many of the Austrian villages do. That's cos as a beginner you'll be knackered enough anyway without a bun fight each morning. Ski in Ski out is excellent choice but will limit your choice too. Avoriaz is high, in France, excellent greens and easy blues and the ski school is in middle of the town itself with no traffic. Also ski in/out. Ugly town though, but very high.
Hope you enjoy it. |

Hi. Just booked a late availability to Innsbruck. Our accommodation AND resort are allocated to us on arrival!! OOH eerr.. We're ok with any of their resorts except for one Igls. The others will all be great, so we're happy to take a chance seeing we got the week for £333 each including ski carriage - that's flight, half board and transfers. Good deal I kow, but has anyone else been on one of these holidays before and if so, where did you get allocated and was it ok. Nervous now......... Thanks.

Cost up a week then, but accommodation only. It can be really really cheap in Avoriaz in many of their apartmetns plus usually the cost of 3 or 4 days isn't much different than a week. Then book a cheapy flight independantly and hire a car or get bus/taxi etc. Transfers quite long, but you could easily drive it or bus it. Then you can be flexible for the 3 days and wouldn't cost any more than a 3 day package which is usually impossible to find. That's what we did anyway a few years ago.
Try Hotel Viking in Morzine. It's actually at the top of the Morzine lift, which is at the bottom of Avoriaz. Might rent you a room independantly?? |
