Cheers Julia. I think I must be missing something though. For all the hassle of DIY why do people bother? I thought I'd save a bundle but I just did some quick calculations and it's much the same price either way (DIY £15 cheaper!) Still using Nielsen's lift pass, ski hire and ski school prices though because I can't find next seasons prices listed yet.
Maybe I'll get into cross country and save on the lift pass. Just need to lose a couple of stone! |

Thinking of Italy again. Definitely unfinished business there! Also seems a bit cheaper than elsewhere but I'd rather not go down the Bulgaria route.
I'm just doing some searching now but there's so much to consider. I can see myself screwing something up and being stuck at the airport or something!! |

This is my first visit back to the J2ski world since last Xmas. I was bed ridden for four of six days skiing in Italy and couldn't bear to be reminded of it......until now.
I've always done packages but am now thinking of the DIY option to save a few quid having recently been made redundant. The brochures seem expensive this year but we (myself and OH) still need/ want ski school and ski hire which I've always assumed is cheaper as part of a package, especially with transfers etc included. The other issue is that we need to go during Xmas school hols, grrrr. Any advice would be really useful as I want to get something booked soon to cheer me up! Cheers ski people! |

ALL my clothes have labels- unfortunately they all say 'XL'!
Think I'll go and check Aldi out- always up for a bargain. |

TK Maxx fan here! We bought virtually everything for our ski hols there and my OH got a pair of Orage sallos for £6! Thats no typo btw. If you see anything like those buy them immediately and mix it up on the slopes. You don't need anything more than the basics helpfully listed above but some of us need a bit of help in the looking stylish department!
Also bear in mind that you can buy waterproofing products which work really well on cheaper/ older gear. And just to echo other people here, don't compromise on gloves. Enjoy! |

Upset over a forum? Never. Overly pedantic people on the other hand.....! My point was that you could get some boots fitted early in the season only for them to be rendered useless 'a couple of months' later whilst resorts are still open. Just two pairs of boots still seems madness to me but each to their own. Perhaps its not just the kids who derive status from having their own equipment.

A friend of mine goes to Bansko every year and loves it but I just don't get it myself. I'm no snob but I personally wouldn't risk going anywhere like that when there's so much choice in established ski areas. If it was less than half the price of France or Italy then I'd take a look but as far as I can see the savings are negligible and I'm afraid that the adage of 'you get what you pay for' would haunt me. Cue price quotes from fervent Banskollians!

Surely buying boots for kids is madness! And not just for economic reasons.
I only know the trouble I had getting my boots fitted correctly so to have to (potentially) go through that every couple of months with constantly moving goalposts would be a headache I could do without. Unless they're the next Franz Klammer, lets face it, the only reason kids want their own gear is to show off -just get them a new ipod. And don't get me started on skis! |
