Remember in the winter you may have to head to the A2 via Stans and the Brunig Pass as the high passes such as the Furka, Grimsel and Susten may well be closed

If you want to ski down the Lauberhorn race route, try and go reasonably early as it has a tendency to get very cut up after midday and is less fun. In fact I just have a couple of runs down the lauberhorn back to Kleine Scheidegg and then go down it. It's really lovely when only a few people have been down it.

Of course with the poor snowfall at present it might not be possible at all.

There was also the Col de Bretaye but that is also 50% reduction and trains only run every couple of hours for a half fare of CH 8.90.
Its a pleasant run back down to Villars and probably worth the fare, but whether its worth going all that way I'm not sure. You could probably find somewhere the Swiss themselves ski with a few blue runs which has a reasonably cheap lift pass. Might be worth trying a Swiss French/German or Italian speaking forum or asking on trip advisor where a number of locals can give replies. |

Hi. The swiss pass validity is here: http://www.stc.ch/download/pdf/uebersichtskarte_en.pdf.
It doesn't look like there is anywhere. The one possibility that came to mind was Jungfrau, but you only get a 50% reduction from Wengen/Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg so that ruled that out. I am not aware of anywhere else that a train line has a station where you can ski from. |

Could you give us a bit more info, e.g. what you want to do, on piste, off piste, level of ability, food style, i.e. French, German, Italian, point and method of arrival, type of accomodation, dates, etc?

2011 was a bad year for snow there, but it was sunny for weeks! You can easily ski from Haus across all 4 mountains to Reiteraml in a couple of hours. It would be a long ski, but I am sure you could head one way from where you will be and ski all the way around in both directions in a day. Alternatively there's a ski bus which runs in both directions. You could take the bus to Reiteralm and ski all the way to Haus and back, or take the bus back. The bus is included in your pass.

Flying with Thompson - What have luggage checks been like lately?

Just to say ...
Hand luggage wasn't checked at all. Wasn't asked how many skis in ski box. Either at Manchester or Geneva. Just make sure hand luggage fits in Manchester Airport size checkers. Staff say the Thompson specific size checkers in terminal 2 aren't used any more. |
