First Red Run in Tignes/Val D'Isre
Started by User in France, 4 Replies
Hi tspill

In my early days of skiing - (in my mid 30's) I was happy & comfortable on blues but had a mental block about reds & avoided them like the plague! I was scared I would end up on a 'tricky' one. I booked a few lessons with a small group of skiers of a similar ability & our instructor very quickly took us on some reds. He obviously knew which ones were more straight forward & it did wonders for my confidence.

I'd definitely recommend a few lessons to help you get the most out your second week. Tell your instructor what your goal is & they should take you down the most appropriate runs to help you achieve this. Have a great time!

Thanks for that info. Bryan - glad you had a good trip. Yes we could meet up in Avoriaz but we might just pay extra for a day pass for Les Gets. We stayed there last year, but couldn't ski due to the lack of snow. We had to take the bus to Avoriaz every day, so to ski in Les Gets would be a welcome change. At least we know the form now. You never know, we might be having such a good time in the GM that we don't want to travel anywhere else!

Hi I'm going to Samoens in a couple of weeks & intend getting a lift pass for the Grand Massif. My Samoens brochure says that if I purchase a GM pass for 6 or more days I'm entitled to one day on the slopes of the Portes du Soleil (ticket office at Les Prodains).

Does anyone know if that means I have to go to Les Prodains to get my card validated? I was hoping to go straight to Les Gets as we will have friends skiing there. I'm not sure quite how it works.

(12 sleeps to go) :D

I'm here too (for the 4th time today). Only 16 sleeps to go so my compulsion to keep checking the weather, snow reports, web cams etc. is reaching fever pitch. This time last year the snow was melting & the forecasts were desperate, so at least things are looking much better this year!! :D
Hi - have a great time in Les Gets, I've just been looking at the webcams & it looks lovely this year. We've been quite a few times & use www.alp-line.com who have always been very friendly & efficient. Obviously a minibus transfer is the most convenient option, but not usually the cheapest so I think it depends on what your priorities are.

This year we're giving Samoens a try - & only 22 sleeps to go!!
Hi Moomin,

I'm sure I've seen all-terrain buggies for hire in ski shops. If so, you could take your lightweight one for the journey & hire one which might be more suitable for the snow. Why don't you contact the Tourist Information office in Les Arcs, or the ski shops themselves to see if they offer this service?

Have a good holiday :-)

I looked Snowbound up on YouTube - didn't find the Sarah Vaughan version - only the Genesis song of the same name (another great track IMHO). As usual with YouTube, one thing led to another & I found myself looking at some fantastic images of snowflakes at:-

This linked me to a really interesting website which these images were taken from. I think it's amazing, these stunning creations somehow seem far removed from the 'white stuff' we all get so excited about!
