School holidays

As for the non easter Eater holidays here in France (see the late March thread :) ), the February half term hols also last 4weeks- from 16th February till 16th March. For the week of the 2nd March two of the three zones are on school holidays - including the Parisians! The week after only the Paris zone is on holiday so it may be cheaper.

Personally we avoid the 4 week period like the plague for skiing in France (too busy and way too expensive!) and are off on a tour of the resorts on Andorra (not everyone's cup of tea but the familarity of Grandvalira and the unvisited slopes of Vallnord seem like a better option than the other Pyreneen resorts!!!)

The french Easter holidays are from 13th April till 13th May! To be honest, the main ski period for the French is the Feb half term - which runs from 16th Feb till 16th March!

Ladt year we booked for Tignes at the last minute. This year no chance! Will have to make do with some weekends and a 5 day trip to Andorra - if we are lucky 15 ski days!

I do mean the last week of april/first of May! We live in the south of France and here the holidays are staggered. Though having said that I don't think anyone actually has their Easter hols at Easter this year - but they are still called the Easter hols. The Paris crowd start the week after us so their Easter hols are actually in May!

As clear as mud??

We went to Tignes the second week of April last year. We had lots of powder and fabulous skiing. It was a very different ski experience to our Christmas week ski trips.

Unfortunately for us, the kids Easter hols fall the last week of April/ first of May. My DH s so obsessed he has been researching if anywhere would still be open.....
Snow chains

We have winter tyres - but then again we drive to the slopes at least once a month in the ski season. My one tip is to actually try putting on the chains in the luxury of your own drive. Last season of the six trips we did to the mounains chains were required on four of them (by the police! ). The number of people who were standing at the side of the road looking perplexed at how exactly to put them on (they are not easy!) and the number of chains that fell off was astonishing! Even with winter tyres we carry snow chans but usually don't need them!

Advice on Andorra

I agree with the parking at either Grau Roig or El Tarter. Easy to access the domaine. Have never skiied at Vallnord as it is moreof a trek for us but we are thinking of trying it this season if only or a change of scene!

In the Pyrenees our options are somewhat limited compared to the Alps but I can't complain - any skiing is better than none! And at least my least favourite thing about Andorra (the smoking) will be a thing of te past come 2013!!
