I spent two weeks in Tignes back in 2013, Report as per link below:
https://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/14261.page Skiing was good fun although pretty expensive. |

Looks interesting but not convinced by the eco claims at all. The very act of going skiing in the first place is hardly a benefit to the environment!

Pretty impressive. Two seconds in and my face would be impacting the tarmac!

Done. Question regarding skiing in 50 years time is interesting. With current trends, I imagine the industry will have been decimated and will have become a rich person's sport...
There ends my cheery Monday morning post! |

Excellent report Dobby. Interesting to hear of the icy conditions this year compared to last. Maybe a bit of freeze thaw going on? We had been thinking of Are for Easter but I think it would have to be a last minute decision based on reasonably accurate weather forecasts.

Is there ANY advantage to hiring anything but economy skis?

I remain somewhat baffled with this particular topic. You state that the skis were from the budget range, that they were spot on and that all your previous budget skis have been excellent.
I'm not sure what enhancements you are expecting over and above 'spot on' and 'excellent'? If you are happy with budget skis, stick with them! |

Haven't been to Chamonix but have skied Zermatt twice. Really enjoyed it.

The skistar site is worth a look (although it only covers Norway and Sweden).
https://www.skistar.com/en/About-SkiStar/ We've skied Hemsedal in Norway twice at Easter. Decent skiing each time although the 2nd trip was saved by fresh snow on the day we arrived. Otherwise it would have been an ice fest! I think I posted a trip report in the Scandnavian section of the forum. |
