Does this appeal to anyone?

SwingBeep partly got to the point before me. I suspect the lifts are running anyway, for staff etc. You can often see bubbles running an hour or so before they officially open, it's not extra "cost", just extra profit...which is my point about a 'slippery slope'.

Well, bringing the point that the lifts were already running anyway, I guess I can see the "slipperiness"... the charge cannot be seen as covering the costs, but rather as "fee" for a "priviledge" and thus a way to increase their profit.
--But I would still go for it, at least once; especially on a sunny/clear morning after some good fresh snowfall the previous night ;)

What's next "fast-track" (like at theme parks), pay extra to jump the queues.

Sorry, no, if they can get lifts open earlier, then get them open for all, first come first served and they get the first run. All these 'extras' are just greed. IMHO

Smartski, if a resort gets the lifts open earlier, they have to charge a cost for it. And even if I do not like the idea of paying more when ski trips are already sooo expensive, I have to admit that having to pay for this "extra" is understandable --since it costs them to offer it. (See Dave Mac's thorough explanation about ski-resorts operational costs in the "late season ski passes" thread).

So if they were to get the lifts open "for all" so early, then they would have to generally increase the skipass prices, which might turn some customers away, and/or put some really-hard-to-deal-with burden on those who are already making financial sacrifices in order to afford a ski holiday.

So bottom line: While I would not afford doing this every day of a ski trip, I would certainly try to do it (if available) at least once per trip. I'd look at it like going only "once in a (long) while" to a very expensive restaurant, or buying only "once in a (extremely-long) while" a really expensive bottle of wine/scotch/cognac -ingnoring the thought that some people can do that every day while I can't. :) :)
Oh no! I just realized that the question was about Spyder jackets, and my reply gave details about TNF.

Sorry for that Woodpecker: I never wore/bought any Spyder stuff. But who knows, maybe they have good customer service as well and you can call [or email a question] about the exact measurements of the particular jacket you want to buy.

Good luck!
Hi Woodpecker: welcome to the forum!

From my experience with TNF, I'd say the accuracy of their sizing differs for various models. I bought a dawn-filled medium which fit just right, and a softshell which was a bit tight. One thing that I like about TNF jackets [besides really good quality] is that their sleeves are long enough (I usually have a problem with this, because I wear medium but I am tall, so many jackets' sleeves are too short for me even if otherwise fitting well)

You may try to even contact the manufacturer and ask for exact measurements: I called TNF once and they were pretty helpful.
Hi Snapzzz,

Since you've made the decision: just go for it!

However, if the online store allows returns, I would go same way as Brooksy already suggested: Order three pairs in different sizes, keep the ones which are the best fit, and return the others.

In fact, that's exactly how I bought mine last year and I am very pleased.

It's true that I also ended up bringing them to a local shop for a fitting and purchased some better insoles; But I did ski with them 1wk with the original insoles, and even so they were a pretty good fit.

(For example: Mine are Tecnica Viva Inforno Fling and I ordered the US sizes 9.5, 10, and 10.5, expecting that I'll most likely keep the 10, but to my surprise the 10.5 was the best fit. I also got them in mid-March, thus towards the end of season, so I caught an awesome sale-price of $249).

Good luck!

I'm sure this counts as wibble on this thread !!!!

:) well OA, we could consider Ally's trip to Tignes as a "recon mission"( 8) ): Hence, I wouldn't call it exactly "wibble" ;)

Good to know what to expect in Geneva!
...Thus even your added comments about the shocking £50 for just a nibble would not count as wibble

bedrock barney wrote:Hi Cat. Glad you enjoyed the report. It was pretty magical. Norway has had a poor snow season but we knew snow was heading our way. The Skiing conditions in the end were excellent. We have more falls on video - I might put together a montage! I think the go pro is cheaper in the USA - go for it :D

Regarding walking around in ski boots, we didn't have to do this (it's a pet hate of mine). We hired a heated ski locker (£25 for the week) located next to the main reception building. Much more enjoyable walking in snow boots

Ah, That was a great idea BB; and £25 is not bad at all for one week; at least you got a bit of a price-break on something, after dealing with those outrageous prices you quoted for food and especially for drinks ;) (I couldn't believe my eyes reading you had to pay about £22 for a 6-pack of Corona in a Supermarket! that's more that what we'd pay here in a restaurant or bar!!)

I'm following my eldest daughter slightly off piste through some trees (for the 1st time.... ).

She is a mono skier and affectionately known as "the levitator" for her ability to glide down and through bumpy terrain.

Anyway, it starts well and ends badly. No dodgy music but I could overdub with Final Countdown by Europe if that would please those who like music with their vids. :D

Oh, and now I have also watched your video: Very Nice! Thanks again for sharing that!!!
I find it in fact refreshing to see somebody posting a video with a good fall! So I wouldn't say at all that it ended badly ;) :)

EDIT:
PS: ... watching all these vids on the forum, is tickling some thought in my head to maybe put a gopro on my list of things to buy for next season... (to which my conservative side wispers cautiously; "Now, now, let's not get carried away: a gopro is not a "need" item!!"...:( ) ...So, remains to be seen if I can restrain myself or not till next January! ...Oh well, if I will not resist the temptation, then we might have some vids posted from the Tignes J2Ski group-holiday next January ... (now, why do I seem to hear that whispering cautionary voice again ? ? ? ... :))
