2010-11 Winter Plans

Ahhh. Good to be back and talking about sking, snow and wintery stuff in general. Haven't been able to face coming on here until now- it just seemed too far off.

I'm in the process of pricing up at the moment- thinking of DIY rather than a package. After only 1 week back in the er, bindings(?)I'm not all that confident in making the arrangements myself but I'll give it a bash if it saves me a few quid.

Likely to be going back to Andorra becasue it seems cheaper than other places over the Xmas hols.

And for those of you who gave me pointers about buying some boots, cheers for the advice- I got a lovely pair of technica dragons and I'm wearing them now- only to break them in a bit though- nothing kinky. :D
Where to go for snow in April?

School hols are my nemesis TBH but the OH is a teacher so i'm stuck having to pay over the odds. I keep trying to get her to organise a school ski trip- getting paid to go skiiig sounds good to me but she won't have it!

I'm torn between booking something now (and paying top whack) or waiting for a last minute deal. Last minute would mean i could pick the best snow destination but availability could be risky. Whichever way, its a nice decision to have to make!

Cheers for the advice.

Thanks Jon.

Right, off to check some prices for the suggested resorts.

(you can tell, I wanna make sure the rest of my party can find me!) :P

My OH got some Orage lime green pants in TK Max yesterday for £6...no typo...£6!

Could be a hit and miss affair but worth rummaging for that sort of bargain.

Suffering recently with a severe case of Tax Return phobia, I reluctantly bit the bullet (fine looming!)and my trepidation was proved unfounded. As a result of this I'm now getting a nice little rebate- enough to get another week's skiing in this season. :-D

Some of you gave me some advice a while ago as to whether I should skint myself to get my own boots, or go away on hols again. The general consensus was rather predictably, to go for both........ and now I can without having to eat weetabix for a month!

So, here's the question. Where's the best resort likely to be in April in terms of snow? I know its a way off yet but it would be great to get some suggestions from some people who have skied at this time in the year.

Cheers in advance

Dilema- boots or holiday?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 13 Replies
Wow, this really is a dilema.

I've now got the ski bug in a pretty serious way and have decided to get my own boots (looking at Tecnicas due to my wide feet, but i digress.)

I only got back from Andorra at the weekend and, (as some of you who have helped me out with some suggestions already know) I am toying with the idea of another trip at Easter.

Here's the problem. Do i shell out £250 on boots now and risk not being able to find a tasty enough last minute deal at Easter?

Or, opt for rental boots whilst away, risk the pain, put £250 torwards the holiday and buy boots in the sales?

Having not owned boots before i am unsure of which is the best route and how much of a risk I'm taking. I'd love to be in a postion not to have to worry about the money side of things...but I'm not...so i have to!!

So, boots or hols?

Or those of us with teachers for partners. Grrrrrr indeed

We only got back at the weekend (not Niederau) but already trying to arrange another trip for Easter- damn those school hols!

Snap.

We fly on the 10th too, going to arinsal. I check the webcams daily and it looks OK. The forecasts of rain bother me a little though.

I was in Arinsal last week. We had rain in the town a couple of times but snow at the top of the gondola (snowed there every day except Xmas day which was sunny). One day the rain reached up to the lower slopes (les merrades), which i'll admit wasn't pleasant, but we still skied the slush- just braved the wind on the chairlift to the top of the mountain to get to the snow.

Don't worry- I'm sure you'll have a great time...juts make sure you remember to take your goggles up!

BTW I'm very jealous
