New skier, hope to go this winter!

Hi I would recommend 2 resorts for you, if you are fixed on France try La Tania it is a choc box resort with some good beginner slopes but also has great acsess to 3 valley ski runs so if you do well there is a bit of scope for getting on a few different runs. La Tania also has a lot of chalet accommodation which is better than hotel if you want to take an afternoon off and lie around watching TV. The night life is great a village friendly feel about the place and not as expensive as the bigger resorts. Failing this my daughter came skiing for 1st time last Feb, we went to Cervinia in Italy it is a very high resort so 99% snow sure, Ideal for beginners with miles and miles of nice open slopes, good bars etc but not so pretty, all hotel accommodation, which is generally cheaper than chalet but not such a good experience IMO, try and get a hotel up the hill near the lifts or it's a bit of a shank in the morning. The big advantage with Italy over France is the prices you will pay in restaurants for lunch up the hill and the price of drinks, about 15% cheaper.
1st trip 19th December for a week in La Tania. Then a week Feb 20th in Cervinia. So exited now. BTW many thanks to solutions for feet www.solutions4feet.com for sorting out my boots, should now be able to go for more than an hour without having hobbit feet. Can highly recommend.

Selva can be a bit difficult if you are not intermediate or above as there is some long uphill walks to ski school and lifts. I would suggest somewhere like Montalbert or La Tania both in France, they both offer compact quiet and friendly chocolate box villages not too busy and very near (1 or 2 lifts) to some of the biggest ski areas on the Alps.

Hi all, have found a good deal for St Anton over Xmas week, but a bit worried about the snow, last few years are showing around 40 - 80cm in December. Can anybody give me any advise on what the conditions are generally like at this time of year.

Thanks all

Hi, as a beginner you will love Corvara, which is in the Dolomites in Italy. Great runs for novices, great place, food, nightlife etc. should be able to pick up a deal if you leave it last minute.
Cervinia - any good?

Thanks Bandit, all the reviews mention position relative to the cable car, however there is no mention if this is where ski school meets.
Cervinia - any good?

Looking at Cervinia this year, party of 5 with 2 newbies so need something good for beginners and intermediates. Like the idea of being able to have some time in Zermatt. The Hotel Astoria looks to be closest to the cable station, and resonable reviews/price, however does anybody know how close it is to ski school meeting point? Can't seem to find out anywhere. General advise, tips and opinions on this resort/hotel would be appreciated.

Hi Graeme

Thanks for the info, so excited right now, can not get off the laptop looking at snow reports etc.

All packed and ready to go. Leaving around 00:30 and driving through to Manchester for a 06:50 flight (bit of a bummer but hey).

Conditions look great on the webcams so hoping we may get both the green and orange done.

Will be certain to interrogate Christian and get all the insider tips.

Hope to see you there.

Regards

Tony
