There was supposed to be a poll with this post but for some reason it didn't work. :(
I think we are mostly Skiers here, This isn't what you prefer but what do you see more of.

Funny, oddly it wouldn't play on FireFox 3 for me but did play on Chrome.

well done  it's doom sayers like you that compound the problem.

Hey..., I don't want any bad blood here. I didn't start the thread and I basically posted things that have already happened. When Banks that have been around for 150+ years and survived the great depression fail, it is a little worse than "a 20 year cycle".

This is something we are all going through and I was just adding my 2 cents. I will refrain from any more "depressing" postings. I come here to talk about my love for skiing, not to upset anyone.

Sorry,
Brad

I have been talking to my boss about it a lot lately, he usually plays in the market a fair amount (in the 5 figure range) but he pulled everything out a week ago. If it gets much worse we might all just be camping out on our porches with shot guns (for the record I don't own a gun), but I told him I am going to be selfish, I just want to ski

But seriously, this is VERY scary, It looks like G.M. might fail by next year, they were the biggest automaker in the world just over 10 years ago, businesses large and small are starting to failing at an increasing rate. Stock markets are in free fall. Iceland just collapsed, their money is worthless (You guys probably know more about that than I). I am lucky that I live in western Washington, we have been fairly insulated from the problems in the rest of U.S. and now the World, but that wont last forever.

With my wife now working as a teacher (as a sub for now) our income has increased 50+% and when she gets a full time job, it will nearly double. Her job shouldn't go anywhere and mine seems fairly secure for now.

I hope this doesn't get as bad as it could, but as bad as it does get, I hope the best for all of my fellow skiers here :D .

Trencher, no disrespect intended, the pictures of you carving are great, but I noticed what looks like a great deal of concentration and focus on your face, to me skiing should be more relaxing and enjoyable. Maybe I am seeing something that isn't there but if I have to think that hard to "Carve", I probably won't.

I can quite understand why it all reads as confusing. It's quite possible for novice skiers on new style equipment to be skiing black runs (single diamonds) after a week. Think back to when you were a learner on skinny skis, how many days for you?

Well, I started skiing when I was 3 years old, so I don't remember, but I would guess it was more than a week

I will probably take your advise and get him a lesson on his first few days, but I should stop speculating until I have skied on my new skis and can speak from experience instead of guessing.

Skiing is/was "easy" to me, on skis that were completely straight (the only kind I have ever skied on). I commonly hear how much easier the "new" ski design is to ski on. But the way everyone is talking here (and some other posts) makes it sound like it is a lot more complicated. Before, I just got on my skis and skied, now I have to worry about am I carving or not or am I doing this right or not? It is really sounding confusing.

Also I plan on giving my son a few basic lessons (how to stay upright & snow plow etc) then getting him some professional lessons. After he has a good understanding from Professional lessons I can help him build on that. Also I may take a few lessons my self, but my boss (1 of the people I will be skiing with a lot) has been skiing continuously for the last 20/30+ years and also is friends with and skis with a lot of the ski patrol and some very good skiers that could probably give me all the hints/training I need.
