the bus from niederau to auffach at about 9.15am will be packed, but that from auffach to niederau will be a dream!
the lift queues to get up to and on the gondola at auffach will be just horrendous. better to ski in niederau; drive there if possible, takes only 10 minutes. no car parking charges. car park next to gondola station in niederau. L. |

we tried to find you in niederau over new year but altho we found dave mac and jan, you proved more elusive! shame! blodyn has already booked the 2 of us flights to munich for dec 26th - £99!! HA! niederau awaits! i understand you went with jan to mayrhofen one day. so what DID you think of niederau? JAN: you shot past me at top of tennladen on the friday morning: all i saw was a blue jacket with www.auhof.co.uk blurring in thr distance! had a great week with christine j. see you next year, if not for a few days in the summer. you are soooo right, i can ski niederau a hundred times and it is different every time. the merkenwiess is endlessly challenging. last week, gipfel was horrid to me, whereas before now, i've loved it! each time i go there (now 20 years, summer and winter), i am welcomed as an old friend. the locals make no fuss, just nod at me, and i know that i'm safe, regarded and well thought of - at least i hope i am. i can walk int a bar alone and sit, without being hassled and without being thought of as weird or as on the pull! i love it there, and i WILL buy a flat there one day. Yes, as per Jan's comments,
take the kids along to ski school, warm and well kitted out, leave them with the instructor, smile and walk away. I've found that the 'right' age can depend, sometimes, on the build of the child. if he/she is bigger, and more robust-looking, then they'll often take to skis easier then a very small, slightly built child, whatever the age. But this is a huge generalisation. speak confidently to your child when the instructor is around, and give the child the impression that this is what YOU want, and that the instructor is in charge. please, please, don't be late picking up your child at the end of ski school. this can be really unsettling for a small child/a young mind. Be there when you say you will be. Come to Niederau to see how it's done consistently well! L. (OMG: JUST HOW MUCH HAS IT SNOWED TODAY?!!) |
