No, there are very busy ski routes from the Samoens and Morillon slopes to Flaine.
And due to my hubby breaking his collarbone on the Samoens slopes I know that there is quite a long road trip from the Plateaux de Saix (I think) to Samoens village and then a 45 minute / 60 euro taxi ride back to Flaine |

We did that last year, we waited for a bus for Chamonix which didn't come, so got on the bus to Aosta - get your ticket from the ticket office first. Can't remember how long the bus trip was, but think the buses run every hour. Then you have to walk across / under the railway to get to the Gondola, bit of a trek in ski boots  , then a nice 20 minute ride to the top.
Had THE most fantastic skiing in my life. Blue sky, perfect slopes, not too many people about. Wonderful. Then we caught the just about last gondola down (which kept stopping) and was very tight for the bus, so had to run for it, still in ski boots). It was a long day, but well worth it. We were there last week in February. I don't know if there's a locker so you can wear street shoes and carry boots, but that would have been sensible, if only we knew we were going there. |

Hi Stuart
We stayed at Courmayeur last year and the one day we were going to get a bus to Chamonix, but there was too much snow and the bus wasn't going there, so we went to Pila instead. And it was the best day's skiing I've ever had. We caught the cable car up, which was fine, to lovely blue skies. The pistes were perfectly groomed, there weren't many people about and therefore not many queues (was approx 1st March). We were on our 6th skiing holiday, so haven't got much to compare with, and I've not got much useful info for you, but I think of that day and it brings a smile to my face. |

Thank you anyway Gareth. :D
I seem to have made a habit of choosing the ugliest resorts to go to (Les Menuires, La Plagne, Tignes), but when you are up in the mountain, you can't see them anyway. It's the skiing that interests me. |

gvj, You're obviously going at half term (welsh half term is the following week). Is Flaine likely to have big queues these 2 weeks - providing it's fully operational by then
We are staying at Foret. What's the best bar up there? |

Hey Gareth, are you back yet? Did you have a good time?

We went to Saalbach 5th March 2005 and had over a metre of snow that week, in fact the top half of the mountain was shut one afternoon 'cos of it.
As a relative beginner it was great fun going 'off piste' on the piste. It's all random anyway  |
