Skiing late April?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 18 Replies
Or choose st christof, above st anton. The resort is tiny but its at 1800m and we skied there with masses of snow 13th April two years ago. Ski instructors all do their training early in the season or in April-may. They do it in kaprun, which is near zeal am zee. It s a glacier with 9-10 months skiing per year.
Anyone skied Alpbach or Filzmoos?

Well done! Conny's in town is great and you can also team up with the shop at Inneralpach too, if you need to during the day if any problems.

The 'pub' above Conny's is the best for dinner out/drinks/apres ski (in the village).
You'll love it.

Hi. We went on an 'allocation on arrival' holiday a few years ago. We were allocated Alpbach. Never heard of it. It was absolutely wonderful. The downside is that you'll be hooked. Not the largest of ski areas, but it seems to change daily. Lots of people go there year on year. It's cheap - hotels you can book directly yourself for circa 40-50 euros per person per night. Wonderful atmosphere, stunning scenery. Not too good gfor beginners, but great for intermediates. And there is LOADS of off piste for experts. You won't be disappointed. We';re off on Friday for the 4th year in a row now!
Ski Mojos

Hi Numpty. I know others think that due to Skiing being a physical sport one should 'expect' thigh burn, especially as one ages BUT WHY when there is a solution. My husband (now 50) uses Ski Mojos, and WONT now ski without them. He had knee surgery some years ago and felt that he needed more support, however others he's met who uses them often do cos of age and other issues. He loves them, BUT they do take a day or two of getting used to. They are a godsend. You bend into the right position to ski and they help you to come up again, keeping you in the right position. They don't interfere with walking/sitting on lifts etc, as you just disengage them with a quick push of a button. Noone knows you are wearing them so they don't look ridiculous. If you buy them, take time to get them to fit properly. It takes a few mins longer in the mornings to put them on etc, but then there's no stopping you. Email me directly if you want more info... my screen name at yahoo co uk. Good luck.

Dare to drive!!

Hi
We've driven for past 3 years but are flying this year. Some info:... (we are a family of 4).
Pros: 1) If you've a big enough car to make it comfortable, and can get a roof box on top, then you can take loads. Especially important if self catering as can stock up before you go.
2) Fun on way out. A pain though on way home, as you just want to be home when you've ended your holiday.
3) You get to see a bit of france too. We stop over two nights on way out and one on way back to break the journey (travel though to Austria, so to France it's easier with just one stop).
4) You can get more skiing time as you can ski first and last day possibly...especially if you just drive through to get home, without a stop.
Cons:1) im,portant one - now the cost of fuel is so high, it makes flying about on par, if you take into account stops on route/meals etc.
2) We fly to Munich late on Friday evening, and return from Munich late on the Saturday this year. Munich flights are a lot cheaper than to Innsbruck/Salzburg, even iwth car hire on arrival.
3)A taxi sent by resort is even cheaper.
