I was beginning to wonder whether you would tell us which ski area this was; then I reached the last paragraph!

I think Schweitzer is in the United States not the alps!

Anything MIGHT happen in ski racing but that's quite a stretch to be honest. Dave's outstanding race at Kitzbuhel was in 2017, some time ago. He MIGHT have finished anywhere in the top 20 if the race had been at Kitzbuhel. There are powerful teams from Austria, Switzerland, Norway, France and others to contend with. Dave Ryding does exceptionally well to compete with them given the lack of team and other resources compared to the giant ski nations. Weekend results of 7th and 12th are impressive enough without grand claims that he might have won if the race was held elsewhere!

I was at Kitzbuhel and Schladming a few years ago for the downhill and night slalom tragic news and loss of revenue as major earners. Brits will be viewed with negativity if the virus causes a major lockdown preventing the locals from skiing and post Brexit won't be easy to get work next season. Fingers crossed they don't cancel the downhill will be watching Ski Sunday in anticipation of another podium finish for Dave Ryding Kitzbuhel his favourite course.

Except the slalom races have now been moved to Flachau!
Tone, I take your points entirely and think there is a lot of confusion and some more, potential restrictions ahead. However, Switzerland yesterday removed the requirement for UK travellers to quarantine on arrival (cue leap in EasyJet prices!). The quarantine period on return to the UK remains, however. I've opted for the DIY approach, with free cancellations/refunds on everything.
I've taken the plunge and made travel plans and hotel booking - all on free cancellation, refundable etc. Will book lift passes much nearer the time of the planned trip.

Less money, fewer customers, fewer new lifts.
Hardly a surprise for Engelberg; it normally attracts huge numbers of visitors from the Far East and India. They certainly won't have been travelling during the pandemic.
