Seriously though

It does look as though (with all the usual caveats and ifs and maybes) that the season for Europe as a whole will start rather better than it has done, generally, for a few years

Got to be good news for those who go early and/or low

Heard you were looking for this kind of thing Adders....

Well done Dave - its exactly what forums like this should be able to achieve

I'm absolutely in awe of DS skiers - be it in sit skis or whatever adaptation. As someone who is able bodied (ahem) I find skiing by far and away the most challenging of all the various sports and activities I do, to do it with a disability is just amazing
Is it just me.......?

Has anyone else become excited like a 7 year old at Christmas and is constantly checking weather, looking at bar reviews and the best slopes to tackle for their forthcoming ski trip? I'm only wondering if there were any others out there like me!!!!

Cheers, and here's for good snow for us all.

Stevie

I've got even worse - I've started reading a load of ski related "fiction" - all variations on the "my year as a chalet host and all the crazy stuff it entailed". Mostly badly written but more vicarious thrills!
newbie thread?

No they don't!
Ranchero_1979 wrote:I think you just need to accept skiing is the ultimate bad etiquette sport:
Lifts going 1/2 full as people can be separated from friends for few minutes
Skiers on slopes which are beyond their ability:
Can't hold a consistent line
Need to stop every 100m for rest
Etc. etc.
Hence best not to worry too much, as am sure we all fall foul at times of annoying people. Only difference is how we rationalize as being acceptable behavior.

Wise words!

And, of course, what one person finds bad etiquette another group think is acceptable. All part of life's rich tapestry!

There is no question that the vast majority of ski resorts in Austria are much prettier and have a much higher standard of accommodation than the majority of resorts in France.

In your opinion!!!!!

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" so you may NOT say on my, and every other member's, behalf that there is "no question" about Austria being prettier and having a better standard of accommodation. I may find France prettier and you can not tell me different (as it happens I find mountains beautiful whatever country they are in).

As previously mentioned there are subtle cultural forces at play in the, general, choice made: Germans speak German so Austria is appealing, the Brits are, pretty uniformly, taught French at school so France appeals (yes we mostly fly but the travel isn't the issue).

I've been to both countries and enjoyed skiing in them both.

I'm suspecting you are posting this thread purely for devilment as no-one can be this blinkered for real?

I love skiing, wherever I find myself. As Adders said - to compare whole countries and categorically state that one is better than another is just daft
