Hey Goppy, we did DIY to Niederau for our first holiday. we got the ferry from newcastle to norway and then drove down from imlujiedn (or whatever the name) to Niederau. It took well over 12 hours and I wouldnt recommned it lol. You say that you are going half term as you are teacher. I can tell you from first hand experience that when we went to Niederau during half term we experienced queues of at least20 minutes at the button lift and about half hour for a gondala. However, you could use it as a base if you wanted to go to other larger resorts. I think the skiwelt is close by so if it was really busy then you have other options. (PS, you do realise how tiny the resort is?)
hi

i am after some advice. could possibly get away this tuesday for 3 days skiing with flights to geneva. where are the best conditions that are the closest or cheapest transfer from geneva?

thanks for the reply dave, we are planning going midweek, do you think it will get that busy so the car parks are full say monday to wednesday? also we will need to hire skis, do you know if therei s a place we can leave the skis each night or will we have to carry them back to our hotel every night? looking at the piste maps, i dont think we will be touching the reds or blacks so do you think we will be better of doing cairngorm or glenshee? or would you suggest one of the other scottish highlands? thre is no way we will be on the slopes for 8.30! do the buses run frequently or do they stop during the morning?

thanks for the clarification on the "olympic village" lol, when you start getting older your memories seem to emalgamate into one lol

I have been looking at the piste maps for all the scottish ski resorts and I am being swayed to the Cairngorm, in fact I am flip flopping a lot between them all lol.

Ok, so we were thinking of a few days in Europe skiing without the kids, but have decided on this first occasion without them we will stick to this country and go off to Scotland skiing (plus the fact it is half the price in Scotland!)

Anyway, the last time I was in Scotland was about 20 years ago. I have been both to Glenshee and Aviemore and although I cannot really remmeber much from them, I remember thinking that Glenshee was a much more "cruisier" resort than Aviemore but like I say, it was nearly 20 years ago.

Glenshee is also closer to us by an hour. So I have been looking at places to stay in Glenshee but it keeps bringing up different areas when I put in a search, ie Braemar, Blairgowrie, Alyth. How do I know which place to pick? does anyone have any recommendations. I wish my memory was better - can anyone tell me (20 years ago) did there used to be a place which was called Olympic Village or something which was purpose built? or am I imagining things? and would this have been Glenshee, Aviemore, or in my head lol, could be getting mixed up with Soll lol.

Do you think I am making the right choice with Glenshee? we are just looking for the easiest runs, nothing that is too energentic. We are also thinking going Monday to Wednesday probably the second week of March, do you think that it will be busy then? or enough snow? ( i know they said they had a good year last year).

Many thanks in advance
Karen
where to go for 4 nights?

well we have just come back from les saisies and had a great time and have got the bug.

we have decided to leave the kids at home and go skiing late march for a few nights.

I have found flights to geneva for the 2 of us from 15th March returning on the 19th march to geneva which will give us 3 days of kid free skiing. it will be our 4th week skiing and we prefer a resort where we can just "pootle" about so somewhere cruisy that will have accomodation that doesnt require having to book the full week out. dont like small resorts and prefer resorts that are linked. so far we have been to niderau, valmorel and les saisies. how much do you think I should budget for? not been skiing without the kids so not really sure what I should be aiming for? what do you reckon it will cost for accomodation for 4 nights, lift passes for 3 days and transfers? is there any company that specialises in it?

PS hurry up before hubby changes his mind!

Im just back from les saisies on saturday. pistes around saisies were in fantastic condition, piste bashers and snow machines doing a fantastic job. we skied across to crest voland were there were quite a few bad icy and bare patches on the routes that were not cannoned, but on the routes that were cannoned, they were great. we also skied to notre dame too and the slopes again that were cannoned were in good shape but the some were quite icy. we didnt get to praz sur arly because the blue route linking back to les saisies side looked quite bare and muddy and it is quite narrow and we are only 3rd week skiers so gave it a miss, but there was plenty to ski on in les saisies. had a great time. dont worry.
Please can someone tell me why grown adults feel it necessary to create a debate over whether they should wear a helmet?

I am sorry, I just dont get it. If you are in 2 minds of buying a helmet and someone came along and said "I dont wear one and I'm fine" would you really think, yeah you are right! Ill not bother. Surely you would weigh up your own personal thoughts, pros and cons etc and think to yourself, yes, I am an adult and this is the decision I have made and not based on whether some strangers on a forum gave you enough yes or no answers!

For goodness sake!!!!

Sorry for rant but I just cant bear it any longer.
