I've found something on general ski exercises on the net you might find useful to download.
www.shs.eriding.net/pages/news/ski/ski_exercises.pdf Another possibility is to look into Pilates. My partner is a Master Instructor in Body Control Pilates and she usually gives instruction to several of her clients specifically for skiing before they go on their ski hols. This involves concentrating on their core stability first and then building on other areas that need strengthening/re-aligning so to avoid injury on the slopes from using muscles etc that may only get used once a year. Hope this helps. Glyn |

Hi all,
Ski chatter seems to be the only place for this one. Finally booked my next ski holiday for the family in Yllas, Lapland. :D The hotel is Hotel Yllas Saaga booked with First Choice for beginning of March 2009. (booked back in June). Reports generally from sites like Tripadvisor seem very positive. But has anyone here got first hand experience of the ski schools there, particularly for children? Any info would be appreciated. Oh, and the children are ages 6 and 9. They have had excellent ski instruction in Niederau over the last couple of years and are comfortable on Red and Black runs already. Thanks in advance. PS. Hope to see the Northern lights as well |

Hi Tony-H,
Just saw your message regarding ISOLA 2000. No doubt you've already booked somewhere else. We went to Isola 2000 in April and posted a piece on it in J2Ski, It was only a day trip from Frejus, but well worth it. From Nice the drive would be relatively short. It's an excellent resort, the drive up there was unique. many 180 hairpins on full lock. Sick bags for children may be required. Glyn |

Isola 2000, Southern Alps, April 07 2008 – We decided to spend a day at this resort while on holiday for the week in Frejus near Nice. Drive time was approx 2hrs 15mins. The drive from Isola Village to Isola 2000 is not for the faint hearted, and driving is the only way to get there. The road winds up the valley to the resort with many 180 degree bends on full wheel lock in 2nd or even 1st gear. Sick bags are not compulsory but may be advisable for children as our 5 year old felt ill with all the twists and turns. :(
Isola 2000 is a purpose built ski resort from the 1960s, so from the main car park (second one at resort) you can hire ski gear, purchase lift passes and venture straight onto the slopes. The lower slopes are mainly Green runs, via button lifts leading to three different destinations infront of the main resort which includes one of the cable cars. A second cable car is further down the slope via the Chastillion Green run. There is also a chair lift available there. During the day we used both cable cars. We started off skiing down the Green runs next to the resort to get our ski legs back before heading down to the first cable car. We then skied down Ecureuil into Chamois Chapland that leads straight into the main resort. A really nice Blue run. We then went straight into the next cable car and did the Avenue Blue run. Back up again and ventured onto Sapins Red run. This was fantastic, especially as no one was on it, as you will see from the pictures. All these runs were perfect for the family, my 5 year old was permanently laughing down these slopes.

I go along with SkiGirl. Stayed in the Hotel Austria 3rd week of March. The service and the room was excellent, as was the food. We had a top floor family room with balcony and views of the mountain. The other benefit is that the Ski Bus stops are right outside. So if you wish to venture to Auffach, just jump on a bus and 20 minutes later you're there. Auffach is an excellent ski area. All Reds and I would say for intermediates and above. One other thing the Ski Shop below the hotel 'Sport Blachfelder' also offer a full ski boot fitting service. The Hotel, Ski Shop and Ski Hire are all run by the same family. their website address is: http://www.hotelaustria-tirol.com Red 19 left of Hotel Austria Gondola in front of Hotel Austria. Also Ski Hire Shops below the Hotel and opposite. Right of Hotel Austria. The two ski school areas. 2006 we stayed in the Sonnschien Hotel. Again an excellent choice but a bit of a trek with 2 young boys aged then 4 and 7, 500m from Gondola. The resort is really friendly, and the four of us were immediately recognised by the Ski School from last year. The tuition is excellent with either school and both my boys were doing Red 19 by the end of the week and this was only the second week of skiing for them. We're considering going back for a third year, particularly for the tuition. Last Monday went to Isola 2000 in the Southern Alps (were on holiday in Frejus near Nice for a week and thought it would make a great day out - and it did). Anyway, many of the children on beginner courses there were on Green and Blue only after a week. Whereas Niederau it's Blue and Reds after a few days. |

Hi all,
We're off to the South of France from the 4th April until the 11th and looking into a days skiing in Valberg (South side of Southern Alps from Isola 2000). Does anyone know if the resort will still be open? The Valberg website looks interesting http://www.valberg.com But some personal experience there would go along way in us making our minds up. Thanks Glyn :D |
