I can confirm what Brimster has posted.
I'm pretty sure that there are not 160 steps up to the Gondola, but there are quite a few. I believe in the last couple of years they have replaced the button lift at Cretaz with a covered chair lift. If you take that and then chair lift Rocce Bianche, should be able to ski down to main area of Plain Maison. It is a cracking resort for beginners, and also gives more experienced the chance for some great skiing. Full of long cruisy runs. Many of the reds would be blues anywhere else. Lots of the ski lessons/beginners slopes are at Cretaz, at top end of town. Cervinia currently has more snow than pretty much anywhere else in Europe, and because of it's altitude, it'll keep for a long time. Can get cold because of strong winds at times, so wrap up |

Wow
Posters here are suggesting that Niederau is not the Utopia many on J2ski would testify to. :?: :!: Never been myself, but as about 50% of all posts { a slight exaggeration  } on J2ski revolve around the qualities of Neiderau I'm surprised that non of it's many patrons have not posted replies extolling it's virtues. I'm sure there will soon be a flood of praise for Neiderau, and your mind will be put at rest. |

Used Ski Republic in Val d'Isere a few weeks ago, and found them to be very good. However, Snowberry across the road get exceptionally good reviews.
That's the cheapest upgrade I've ever heard of. Gonna be tricky for you to know whether you'll definitely get better skis, or whether they'll make you ski better. I'd suggest that for only 5 euros, you trust the shop to give you better kit, and see for yourself how you ski. |

Just so as not to put Badbark off Morzine, I would mention that there is plenty of skiing on the Morzine/Les Gets slopes, without touching Avoriaz. If you're beginner, there will be no need to buy anything other than the local pass and stay Morzine side. Last time I went to Morzine, I didn't go to Avoriaz at all ( and I'm not a beginner!) However, should snow conditions be poor in Morzine, which is quite low, Avoriaz does give the option to go higher. |

I was there too. Know exactly what you mean. Skiied on the Bellevarde side and had a fantastic time.
Smiled all afternoon. Great way to end the week. :D :D |

So here's the thing.
After promising to get fit after last years skiing, and stop my burning thighs, suffice to say, I've done nothing ( unless you call golf, excercise). I booked yesterday, to go on 18th January to Val d'Isere. :D So about 10 days to sort my self out. :!: Whilst I know that's not long enough to 'get fit', what are the recommendations at this late stage. I'm thinking of focused muscle toning and stretches, rather than cardio vascular. I'm forty something Graham |

what's going on in this forum lately?
This surely, is an advice/chat/info forum, not somewhere for people to start a slanging match, cos they got out of bed the wrong side this morning. We had much the same on 'one for the instructors' tread recently. Cost me a couple of karma stars then when I objected to it going to far. Can we just keep the answers courteous, informative, with a sprinkling of humour. That said, end of rant. Hopefully those of us stuck at home are just suffering cabin fever. Happy New Year :!: :D ) |
