America or Europe???
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 4 Replies
Hi Guys

Thanks for the advise!!

Haha - well the thought of staying in during the evening does not appeal! Im on Bode Millers side with that one! The better the Apres the better the ski resort.

We may well be taking a trip there soon!!

Cheers

America or Europe???
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 4 Replies

Was thinking of booking a last minute deal to Canada or USA - somewhere I havn't been. Im pretty much a Europe girl.

Were 4 girls (all over 21) who perhaps enjoy the apres javascript:emoticon(':)');
javascript:emoticon(':)');as much as the skiing. Are we making the right decision or should we stick to Europe?

Any suggestions on Lively resorts with good Red/ Blacks over the other side of the Atlantic?

Thanks

Hi

New Zealand - Queenstown (there is quite a few resorts dotted around)

Went last year, a lot of Ski teams train in New Zealand during our summer months.

I believe the mountains were called the remarkables. The views were fantastic and the hospitality of the New Zealanders is the best i've ever experienced.

Livigno - anyone been?

We flew in to Milan which is a 4 hour transfer so a good book is highly recommended.

However apart from that Livigno is a fantastic resort. Ive been twice now and would certainly recommend to others.

The obvious thing is the cost when your there, the resorts tax free so drinks/ food etc is pretty cheap. We were fortunate to have ski to the door which in Livigno is really hard to find!! stayed at a place called Casa something with Airtours.

If you havnt got this the bus's can get a bit annoying.

Apres - the lively ones I remember were Gullivers and Marcos, theres also a night club which you generally need to get a taxi to. We went keen on the idea however when we got there we couldn't believe how packed it was and turned into a good night. Be warned though its pretty expensive. You have to pay to get in and then buy drinks tokens at a seperate desk (I think the lowest amount you can buy is four drinks!)

The food is fantastic again I cant remember the names but ate at three fantastic restaurants in the centre of town. One is like a beach hut you have to climb some stairs to - best meal ive ever had.

Apart from that you can also take the Snow Mobiles out on the frozen lake and go to St Mortiz for the day.

Hope this helps enjoy your trip!
Long Weekend Skiing

Hi

For perfect short weekend breaks my favorite has to be Sierra Nevada, Spain. Its a 100km area 15-20minutes from Granada airport on the Costa Del Sol. You can literally be sun bathing on the beach in the morning in the med and Skiing in the afternoon.

The people are fantastic - mostly Spanish, or English who now in fact live in spain. The Apres is excellent with discos and tapas bars in the resort.

The best thing though has to be the price, im going there on Saturday and my flights cost £20.00 with Taxes, My car hire was £29.00 for 4 days (economy car hire), and my accommodation which is 5 minutes out of town was £90.00 for two sharing. All in all a long weekend for £80.00 exc ski lift pass and spending money. (Car hire is recommended as the ski bus is hard to find in Granada that takes you up)

Just as a tip if your going on a short break i recommending hiring skis when your out there. Ryanair wanted £31.00 each way to take skis on the plane!! Im renting them for 30 Euros!!!

Other than that other good places are the obvious Mont Blanc resorts, or Slovenia (which I believe has a 15 minute transfer time)

Hope this helps!
