Dear all
This really is a question that I should be answering rather than asking considering how many times I've done it but it's always been the same way. I'm looking for alternative routes The usual route is round the outskirts of Munich, onto the A8 to Siegsdorf then on from there via Lofer I do,however, remember one such journey turned into about an 8 hour drive because of the mass of traffic. It was during Bavarian half term and this year the holidays clash again so I'm looking at alternatives to consider Google maps does give alternative via Pinzgauer Str/B311 but I have no idea if they are our A road equivalent or country roads Does anyone have any experience of that or any other routes which may avoid huge tailbacks? The A8 tends to clear after the Innsbruck turn off from memory so an alternative route to there could also work I guess Also, if I were to keep to the usual A8 route to Siegsdorf, am I right in thinking I don't need a Vignette to get to Maria Alm? Any help much appreciated Thanks |

My thoughts exactly Dave
As an aside for those of us that have experienced picking up a hire car at Munich Airport, have you ever wondered where the legend of German efficiency and organisation ever came from? |
|
I thought that was the case! I'm just getting quotes for a car to do exactly that and winter tyres are 16 Euros extra per day Something didn't smell right as I got a car fitted with snow tyres last year for roughly half the price of this year's quote Just spoke to the desk in Munich and lo and behold cars come with winter tyres fitted as standard Guess I won't bother to pay the extra and "risk" it |

Another +1 for Solden
I organised a long Easter weekend trip for 6x40 somethings a few years ago and Ischgl didn't want to know. We ended up going to Solden and had a blast. The après ski bar at the bottom of the piste was pumping 4 of us shared the top floor "suite" at Hotel Sunny Solden and we had plenty of room. Certainly a bedroom each from memory We've also done Cervinia for the long Easter weekends and that's always a laugh too |

There is a ski shop next to the gondola where we left skis and boots but I can't remember the name of it I'm afraid.....I've got a picture if that helps :)
