I wouldn't like to think I was 'flagging' up an issue at all. However, I am sure that your message is aimed at me.

The reason j2ski is not the #1 ski website (when it should be really) is because it is cliquey. There are no show offs on 'snowheads' but then again there isn't the knowledge on snowheads that there is on so j2ski. J2ski has created a niche in that regard.

j2ski has found good skiers. I ski reds and I'm scared of blacks. I don't feel good enough for this forum and that is how this forum makes people feel.

I won't repeat myself but there are people on this forum who I really admire.

I'm not too sure I'll post again.
We all need to buy wrapping and cards in the January sales and then just put it away.. but chocolate.. not sure that would keep for a year )

Whether you are regular or goofy doesn't depend on whether you're right/left handed at all. So why the showboard? I tried snowboarding first, knew after a day I wouldn't get on so went to skiing.. I'm okay but not briliant at all... My favourite experiences skiing have been doing the jumps in snoparks.. maybe I should try snowboard again.
I hear that this Friday most TK Maxx's are getting stock in so Saturday ski clothes shopping should be fine.. I find this strange but then I've seen christmas cards already so.....!
Ski Helmets?

Just seen a BUPA Travel Policy requiring snowboarders to use a leash and use "protective headgear" in the small print. my italics

So, the $64,000 question.... Would they disallow a claim if their snowboarding claimant chose not to wear a helmet. Plenty of other insurers to choose from currently, but it could start a trend, and others may follow this.

BUPA are selling insurance to UK residents in this instance.

I'm covered by BUPA through work for 'winter sports' - their policy wording is very long when it comes to snowboarding (including the helmet wear) and for skiing it is nearly as vague. I always opt for BUPA but only becuase it is cheap (through work) but for off piste, it is ludicrous - you would never be covered, you have to take a stand alone policy on top.

Basically, I include BUPA travel cover at work as one of my flexible benefits (not just for winter sports but for summer trips and it includes family very cheaply) but my boyfriend works with me and many years ago used to work in insurance and doesn't opt for the BUPA cover because he thinks they have too many caveats when it comes to winter sports.. Maybe I'm silly, maybe he is (for paying over the odds every year) but we won't know until we have a claim.....

As an anecdote, it is very easy to make a claim in spain for getting drunk and losing your bag but losing a ski is a very different matter.

PS, I meant to say, when will the euro get so bad that Switzerland looks cheap? I can't wait.

I'm new to this and new to skiing. Not sure if it's considered poor etiquette to hijack someone else's query?

I'm also on my first skiing holiday and I'm looking to go to Bulgaria with my girlfriend. We'd have to hire everything and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on places to stay or packages that include accommodation and ski/snowboard hire?

Cheers
Canny

Hi Canny

If you are new to skiing, can I ask why you are looking to go to Bulgaria? You will find other countries with much more to offer at similar prices for a weeks skiing, where your experience would be much nicer. Its fine if you like beggars and dodgy gear though.

I could not agree more and people on this site can help. Do not go to bulgaria for your first trip (although I haven't actually been there so perhaps it is not fair for me to comment but one of my best friends (a great skier) is from Czech Republic and will not go skiing anywhere in Eastern Europe now that she has discovered France and Austria.... when will switzerland get cheap.. if the euro keeps going this way, hopefully sooner than I think. We all want to ski Switzerland.
