On the subject of helmets......

I should think that the latest news on poor Michael Schumachers accident would persuade a lot of people to consider wearing a helmet - he is a very experienced skier and it was suggested by the doctors attending him that without a helmet he would not have had any chance of surviving the accident at all. Food for thought folks!
Free ski pass for the over 70's

Having reached the age of 70, 2 years ago, I continued with my annual skiing holiday in Andorra because lift passes are free for the over 70's there. Does anyone know of any other ski resorts in Europe offering the same priviledge?

Friends found me at the foot of some rocks with blood pouring out of a head wound. Went straight out and bought a helmet. Following year crashed again with serious dent in helmet - bought another but so glad I was wearing one for the second incident! Better to be safe than sorry folks!
Who wears a helmet?

Somebody asked me if he needed a parachute to skydive once - I told him only if he wanted to skydive twice. I wear a helmet so that I can go skiing the next day - when I've bought a 6 day ski pass!
Just upgraded my 7 year old skis with new Elan carvers that are 168cm and my height is 172.5cm, so yes, I think your skis are too long and should be changed. 15 years old does meant that your chances of reaching 5' 10" from your present 5' 4" is pretty doubtful so I don't think you will 'grow' into your 175cm skis. How old are they? Will the shop do a replacement or exchange deal? If they were new you shouldn't lose too much by selling them and it will be one of lifes lessons - 'Don't buy something you can 'hire to try' first!'

I once was forced off a run by a complete novice (for this novice read idiot) and crashed into a rockface using my face as protection for my skull! First thing I did after the blood had stopped flowing from my nose was ski straight down to a ski shop and buy a helmet with a chin guard. I just didn't fancy ever using my face, nose, mouth, teeth or head as a means of stopping ever again. Not one regret as it has saved the aforementioned more than once now.
