We are regulars to Vars! The Vars side of the resort is very French (not sure the ski schools have English language classes - our kids are bilingual s it has never been an issue!).. We lve the skiing - there are all types of runs from the long motorway ones to challenging ones. The lifts could do with an update and sometimes the links are a bit long (it is a far old ski to get over to Risoul and back in the time the kds are in ski school!)
Not sure where your hotel is - we always stay in the Village Club de Soleil as we get a healthy discount there via DH's company and the last few trips we haven't gone into the town of an evening (too lazy or last year too injured!!). Snow has always been good. When are you going? |

Thanks for the report - brings ack lots of memories! We hae been to Vars for the last 5 years - creatures of habit!
There are very few Brits. Personally I refer Vars but DH often skiied with DS in the afternoons with the mission of exploring Risoul more and he found runs we have never done before (and we ski hard and long!!). We always stay in the Village Club de Soleil -all inclusive including skis and lift passes and in a ski in ski out position. Out of school holidays it is actually quite reasonable! As we drive flights are not an issue! I would say it takes about 3h from just north of Marseille Airport. On a Saturday afternoon it can get busy at the end of the motorway!! |

Also had fabulous powder in Soldeu today - but have to say yesterday was better simply because the off piste opportunities were far better (even though Arcalis is tiny compared to Grandvalira). Yesterday we found powder all day. Today it was skiied off by 11am.

Sorry to say but tye French half terms last 4 weeks - so the week of 3/3 there will be 2 zones on holiday -one of which is the Paris zone. Anywhere in France will be heaving!

Basically what Ian said - on both counts!! The egg is the telecabine - is that the English word!!!? My English gets worse and my French doesn't get any better ;)

That looks like a lot of snow! Did you manage to get down the mountain OK? I saw that the route down towards France was closed much of last week. Thankfully the snow is hopefully saying goodbye for a few weeks so we can actually ski and see where we are going!!
