I agree about SkiTracks. It provides more stats & graphs than I reckon anyone could need or want. I didn't find it a drain on my battery at all, but with three of us running the app (mind you, I believe I am the only one with the paid version), we all got varying results from our end-of-day summaries.

Like Andy, there is much competition amongst us to produce the max speed on our selected schusses. I currently hold the record of 123.1kph set in Val Thorens this year, but I believe this is a little suspect as my colleagues were a full 15kph behind and I reckon there couldn't have been that much variation. Also, distance covered differed, tho' only by a small amount and runs/lifts didn't always match either. Even comparing app readings at mountain top departure points recorded different altitudes.

Still, for 69p it's a bit of fun and although interesting in examining (and arguing) over a beer or two, I'm not sure that it could, or should, be relied on for any great degree of accuracy.
Advice on resort for mixed-level group

For me, I would go for Sauze. Have been to both Livigno & Sauze and would rate the variety of slopes in Sauze as far superior, plus I personally thought Livigno was just OK in the apres dept. and would score Sauze much higher again.

The fact that you can tour across the Via Lattea -Sestriere, Sanscario etc to Claviere, Montgenevre and back - I think is more fun than having the limitations of less well-connected slopes arranged along the two valley sides of Livigno that require a rather disruptive (and sometimes quite slow) bus journey to negotiate.

I personally think the Via Lattea offers more scope for a reasonable intermediate group to have a more interesting week's skiing.
Narrowing down the choice....

Was in Livigno in January this year. Skiing area spread along the length of both sides of a long valley. To get from 1 side to t'other can entail a bit of a walk to the bus route, and then quite a jaunt on a rather circuitous route to get to where you want to go. Other downside to the resort is its remote location & a 5hr transfer from Brescia, a bit shorter from Innsbruck I believe. A limited resort for someone used to 3 Valleys/Via Lattea/ Espace Killy etc.

I've been to the first three and if its a mixed-abilty group, I would venture that any fairly reasonable intermediate in the group could feel a tad restricted by lack of variety/size of areas. I was in Wengen, but didnt get to ski, however the area was very attractive with some compelling non-ski diversions, and I'd certainly like to go back & give it a whirl. From what other ski colleagues have told me, purely for skiing, ADH would probably cover all requirements.
Which way to go?

I've never been Vivalas, but me & my buddies were very close to going to Les Gets/Morzine area simply because of the easy, short transfer from Geneva. Couldn't give you an idea of what it's like, but a quick gander at the resort guide might clue you in.

One year, my buddy & I just grabbed a flight to Geneva & then, without any thought just jumped on the first bus heading out of the airport. This took us to Chamonix, which is also a short distance away, but one place I don't rate that highly. Mainly because you have to bus to all of the three ski areas. Once you're there it's all pretty good & the town nightlife is excellent, but overall I'd try somewhere else.

Well Dave M, I shall await reports of such meets with great interest.

With regard to my refusal to acknowledge the inherent physicality of the sport, I can only say in my defence that I choose to make the art of skiing that little bit more difficult by employing a unique, but totally individual crap technique that saps any strength that my sinews might have had.

I endeavour to amuse the YWs to such an extent that they let me scoot off in front of them in order to fully un-appreciate my lamentably laughable legwork.

Not 'working from home' and getting in the mood by watching Eurosports coverage of the combined downhill at Wengen........lovely part of Switzerland. Was there a couple of years ago on a spur of the moment break and just checking out Wengen/ Murren/Grindelwald area. Unfortunately didn't get to do any skiing, but would very much like to go back & investigate.

............only 28 hrs to go ......
