I was definitely a lets have fun guy. I started in the late eighties and didn't have any proper lessons, just tips from friends.
In the last few years I have started having some lessons and reading the books to improve my skiing and I now really enjoy trying to get to be a good skier. Do I regret not having lessons all the way? No, I've had a lot of fun skiing badly but safely down all pistes. Is it difficult to remove engrained habits? Yes but not impossible. My kids have some lessons but not that many. They love skiing and I didn't want learning to be an excellent skier to be a chore for them. They are safe and in control by the way. Now though they are getting interested in properly learning to be a good skier and I'm all for it. I guess I'm just saying that you don't have to do it totally by the book. |

I've used Ultimate snowsports a couple of times and found them very good.

I know that some will say I'm crazy, but Val D'Isere is great for first timers. The nursery slope is very good and there are some excellent easy pistes above Solaise (you can ride the lift back down) and when up there you will really feel like you are up in the mountains. Yes its expensive in town but if you have a good half board deal then its not really a problem.
Definitely think a session on a dry slope is worth while just to get used to the boots, skis and getting back up. Then probably a trip to a snow dome for lessons if possible. this will really help when you get out there. |

I know you want striking distance of geneva but really with driving to the airport, waiting at the airport and sitting on the plane. What's another hour in the transfer compared to the whole week in resort? Just something to think about )

Have a look at Mountainsunltd.com
Basic accomodation but very good food and superb skiing. Very short walk to the piste and you can ski back to right accross the road. Mike |
