Having read your reviews and having skied at many of the european 'trendy' resorts i am keen to sample Les Arcs.
I am an advanced 2 plank skier (Salomon x-wing Furys) and a keen Mono skier which is my first snow sliding passion. 8) Being single, middle aged and not suffering a male mid-life crisis i am quite content to leave the young 'uns to their all night apre ski scene and with a minimum of Poma /T-bar Tows and open mountain runs Les Arcs seems to be what i am looking for. Having been spoiled by the lift systems in the USA i would like to find a european resort that has the barest minimum of poma/T-bar tows.
I am an advanced 2 plank skier but my first love is Mono skiing and riding a Poma tow or T-bar is a pain with a high potential of catching a rut and falling over. Many Snowboarders share this opinion however i would submit that being able to remove one soft boot and ride a snowboard up hill on a tow is easier to master than trying it on a Monoski with both legs clamped together. I enjoy(my retro)style of snow sliding and i would like to know of a resort that is Monoski/Snowboard uphill friendly please. Rob |

Stand upright with your feet apart.Draw your legs together and see if the insides of your feet or knees touch together first. Then you will know if you are knock kneed or bow legged. This determines wether the out side or inside Cant should be raised to compensate so you get an even stance on your skis. It works for me. Rob |

Many 2 plank skiers with knee trouble have taken up MONO skiing as the lateral pressures are shared as the knees are always together.
It really does work for me. http://monoski.net 8) Rob |

monterosaholidays.net Macugnaga (pronounced MakunYaga) is a small, traditional alpine resort on the Swiss border on the other side from Saas Fee. We are going back there again tomorrow for a week. I am sure they can accomodate you for any days you wish. The top staion is at 2900m. People can fly to Milan (Bergamo)with Ryanair but if you can fly to Milan (Malpensa) then do so as it cuts the journey to Macugnaga down to 1 hour. Hope that helps Rob |

monterosaholidays.net We are going back for the 2nd time this season ('nuff said) and snow is on it's way for monday. I too prefer a resort with a minimum of button lifts as i am a Monoskier. Ifyou stay at the hotel flora then take a travel kettle with you if you like a midnight or early morning cuppa and a dvd player c/w dvd's as it is a quiet resort with no lift queues. They transfer you from/to Bergamo/Macugnaga ( pronounced MackunYagga) there are quality apartments if you wish to be independent. Equipment hire and lift pass is included in the price which we rate as great value. cc_7up2005 |
