I'd try Zermatt for April skiing thats your safest bet.

For cheap lodging try Hotel Antika and then choose the Annex, that is quite a cheap option in Zermatt.

The OP starter is comming over the pond so snow must be guaranteed.
the highest place to ski is Zermatt and there are already slopes open. But the thing is for what the starter wants I think ARRABA is best with the sella ronda. But take in account that snow conditions can be bad or even worse that there is now snow at all. <mode shameless adv> For a nice view of the Zermatt Area download the KMZ file for Google Earth http://3d-ski-maps.blogspot.com/2008/10/download-3d-ski-trials-here-for-google.html </mode shameless adv> |

Both Whistler and BlackComb are 100% complete.
I also re-created the Zermatt area in Swiss http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=EarthTravel&Number=845665&fpart=&PHPSESSID= http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=EarthTravel&Number=859882&fpart=&PHPSESSID= You can see video's of some the trails I created on my personal http://3d-ski-maps.blogspot.com ps you need the divx plugin. The video's are of better quality than youtube. ps. Some trails in the zermatt are are made with actual gps data. If you have gps data for some of the runs please email me and I will update the maps accordingly. Which ski area should be next? |

I've visited Zermatt 1/2 april a few years ago.
When we drove to the auto-train it was 19 degrees celcius outside that dampened our spirit quite alot. But when we arrived in Zermatt the temp had dropped to around 9 degrees at 1600 meters. Most of the slopes where open, only the ones to the village were closed. It was my first ski holiday and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Later that week the temp shifted and it started snowing in the village. So I think if you want late april skiing Zermatt will do. |

Hey Max,
Did you find a place in cervinia? Just wondering. Cheers |

Max,
Spinning is best! It will give you stamina on those long downhill runs. And if you do the following technique you will get even better results: Try to pull your leg instead of pushing on the pedals. That will give ya a burning in the thighs. |

Max,
Try Breuil-Cervinia or Valtourneche in Italy. From there you definitely you can ski Zermatt. if the lifts are open of course. cheers, prometeus |
