A real skiing Job?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 13 Replies
I agree with ise when i qualified there were not many ski instructors qualifiying each year basi ran some gap courses and a couple of companies ran Canadian gap courses but nowdays its like Mc Donalds basi have franchised it out to loads of ski companies and schools and anybody who is on a gap year who can stand on a pair of skis is churned through the system.

If your serious about getting a qualifications i would take the 7 grand it would cost you to do a gap and go somewhere like soldeau for a season get a part time job if needed and ski as much as possible.
Talk to the ski school its mainly Canadian and BASI instructors english speaking and im sure would let you shadow lessons all day every day. Once your in with the click they normaly run personal performance hours throughout the week and obviously you will be working on your personal skiing with a range of instructors that you shadow. They may use you for real teaching to cover sickness or busy weeks.
End of season book on the Canadian and Basi Exam weeks and you could end up with two sets of qualifications as well as a lot of work experience.

Further to the recomendation for Snowcoach check out the web site. http://www.snowcoach.co.uk/page.php?id=259&pid=59&mpg=pricesoffers
I can highly recomend the coach its easy and hassel free (assuming you live in the south) but they have flight options with pick up from airport as well.
I have been using them for over 20 years especially good value now the euro is so strong as all your food and wine is included.
Looks expensive at the moment but if your willing to take a chance and leave it you may get a better deal.
They just offered me a week at val cenis in late Jan for £379 plus free ski and boot hire and BOGOF lift pass.

Why dont you want to drive your very unlikely to come across any snow on the roads especially in April.

Thats still double the price it was 2 years ago.
I have a set for sale on Ebay at the moment. Item number: 250351238401.
Like you i brought them and took them on 2 trips but never needed them so they have not been out of the box still have the tie wrap round the handle.

Im only selling them as they dont fit my new car so had to buy another pair.
I used them on a New Golf so im guessing suitable for that kind on size car. Tyre sizes are on the listing.

I agree with Ross try to find an English Speaking instructor that has either Basi or CSI (Canadian) qualifications as the principles they work on are more from a coaching perspective as apposed to a lot of the Old school French who think you will learn just from following them around.

If you dont want to have private lessons then maybe a specific course from someone like SNOW Works might be more your thing. These are all Generally BASI Trainers (the instructors instructors) and will run courses aimed at improving specific themes like offpiste however they are all based on personal performance so well help your skiing whatever the course.

I done a whole season in just Hiking boots from nightclub to fancy presentations.

Unless your off to ski with Prince Charles I dont think anyone notices in a ski resort.

Its sometimes worth taking an old jacket for the evenings though as I have know them to go missing by the end of the night not advisable to take your new Quicksilver and leave it hanging by the door.
