I am sure that I was over tkaen by a 3 year old on a back run at ADH last week - maybe new skiers are getting younger .....or perhaps I'm just getting older!??

I can probably add a little here ? I returned from ADH on Saturday (3rd) after a weeks skiing! I was a little concerned that the snow would be patchy due to poor snow falls earlier in the season. However, it absolutely dumped when we were there ? I think it snowed every night except one (with an average of between 15-30cm each night). So we had some good skiing. Actually, there was so much snow that the main runs at the top of the resort were closed all week due to avalanche risk (avalanche canons were going non-stop for the entire week). ADH is a good resort for learning up to intermediate ? although advances skiers/boarders will still find something to please them ? there is a varied terrain and some great off-piste relatively close to a lot of the main piste areas. We had great snow for off-piste but I suppose we may have been lucky!

The only problem was that it rained the night we left but hopefully it was falling as snow further up the mountain the resort ill hold up! If your lucky you might even get some more snow! I am not sure what the forecast is!

The area is beautiful, with terrific view from the lifts all over the resort. The town itself though has been a little let down by some ugly 1960?s and 1970?s buildings that look like mini apartment blocks rather than the really nice chalet type buildings you get in other resorts! Having said that it is a great little place and there are a few nice restaurants, a couple of bars/pubs and a few little shops. Don?t expect anything massive and the town is sorta spread out with bars hidden down under building or in back streets so don?t go looking for a ?party area? ? its all sorta spread out. But it?s a small town so go wandering or have a look at a map and see what you can find!

Its also not that expensive ? we ate out 4-5 times and a main, dessert, drinks (wine/beer etc) would bring the bill to a total of about 25 euros each which I thought was not too bad for the alps.

There is an ice rink, pool etc which is covered by ytour lift pass (depending on what type of lift pas you get) ? although boys will need to wear speedo?s ? no board shorts allowed!! It?s a laugh for the girls though!

When you arrive go to Les Bergers end of town where all of the main ski hire shops are ? this is also the junction for many of the lifts ? there is a little shopping centre here with about 20 ski hire places, boot/ski/board shops, a little supermarket and a range of other things ? its also where you can get your ski passes and so on!

Any other questions people want answering let me know ? I may not know all the answers but I have just returned any might be able to help with anything you are worried about!
thanks iceman!

I know I know - snow readings always seem to get a little exeggarated.

Still, I've got a week off work, skiing with some friends, drinking with some friends, eating, skiing, drinking .....

Did I mention that I have a week off work!?

Did I just use the word 'lass' ?!?!?!

Does that word even exist anymore?

Surely, the most obvious use of ski poles is to defend the honour of some young lass in a 'star wars' style sword fight with a strapping austrian ski-instructor (evil) bully!

I entirely agree with Jobster here! And also note that (although I?m new to this post) it is certainly a well worn topic!!!

Everyone is on the mountain for the same thing ? how can you say that ?boarders always do this?..? or ?people on ski?s are always more that ?.??

The fact of the matter is that boards or skis you will always get some idiot who thinks he can but really can?t ? but to suggest that its always boarders is just plain arrogant.

I for one have been collected by idiots on both boards and skis numerous times ? if they are a beginner or it was a genuine accident then I?ll waive it off in good humour and do my best to ensure that they (as well as anyone else) are unhurt and can continue on their way (I make particular effort if they are a newbie). If they are being reckless and stupid they may get a mouthful ? at NO TIME does it matter what boots they have on their feet!!!!

Idiots are idiots ? no matter how they get down the mountain!

Oh, and by the way ?just like to point out that I am primarily a skier and felt it my duty here to comment in the support of the sensible, good and genuinely nice boardriders who use this forum!

Cheers

Hiya all, as you can see from this post, there were a few messages posted last week indicating that there had been some snow falls and that conditions were generally good at ADH. I have heard that they had some rain on lower slopes last week? Is this correct? and if so how are conditions holding up? I am heading to ADH this weekend (24th) so any update on ski conditions in ADH and the Alps generally would be great! Cheers all!
