i`ve stopped at the lion, and found it a good clean excellent hotel, afew minutes from the gondala, and same to the old town, with good places to eat, although i ate in the hotel most nights as was half board and found it good food.

we chose Rila, the location is great - just in front of the slopes - http://www.borovets-bg.com/main/hotels.php?type=1&lang=en

Stayed in the Hotel Lion a couple of years ago. Nice hotel, decent food, but freezing swimming pool (although that seems the norm in Bulgaria to be honest!!)
You will find that most hotels are fairly new, with good rooms and decent bars etc.

I was in both resorts, but Basnko is better for me. Try there Florimont or Florimont Casa. The first is bigger and has more extras, the second is smaller, but quieter.
