Hi, also Alleghe (Civetta ski area, the other side of the mountain from Val di Zoldo) is a good base, by the lake, easy access, only about 120km from Venice. Dolomiti Superski website has all the info about their 12 different ski areas, travel, accommodation booking etc
Cortina d'Ampezzo is a bit further, a lovely town, skiing is in 3 different areas( not connected by the slopes).

Our advice is to ski first then you aren't worried about having a long or delayed transfer back to Marco Polo. We then split the luggage up and left our ski stuff in the bigger case at left luggage before heading into Venice. There's a quick bus service to/from the airport and I would recommend staying near the bus terminal in Venice so you don't have too long a hotel transfer with luggage if you're walking.
