The hoteliers in the alps are getting increasingly fed up with the restrictive contracts and high commissions (15-35%) imposed on them by the major online booking platforms.
In Austria, France and Italy price parity clauses are now illegal and the parliaments in Germany and Switzerland have voted to make them illegal, but the laws are not yet in force. Hotels in Austria, France and Italy may now offer prices on their websites that are lower than those on the booking platforms.
I find that the best deals are to be had by ringing hotels directly and if possible speaking to the proprietor.

While not quite a ski trip, I just booked a hotel in Vienna for the Christmas Markets and for the first time in as long as I can remember got the best price by going direct to the hotel.
We also got a great deal when booking direct with the hotel for my first ski trip to Italy next season. Easy for me as I drive, but it all helps.
