Hey guys, thanks for the feedback! Long runs & off piste would definitely be a priority for us. So the linkages between the valleys in monterosa close often? Are they fairly new or old, slow ones? And what happens if one gets stuck in another valley;-)? Cervinia-Zermatt was closed 4 days out of 4... Thanks!

If you stay in La Thuile you can get the but to Courmayeur for a couple of euro that only takes about 20mins. We did that last year and had an epic day there.
When in doubt?....Flat out.

Have been in Courmayeur this week and although not a huge area it is big enough to explore for a few days, lots of off piste if you like that sort of thing.

The town is very pretty and quite chic, good bars and restaurants but don't go shopping if you have your credit card in your pocket !

Overall , beautiful town , great skiing if for only a few days , but as others have said, the bus system links easily , we went to Pila for the day.

Courmayeur may not be one of the largest resorts but is certainly one of the best; it caters for all abilities with around 30 pistes from the main area at plan checrouit. There are around 25 lifts of various types which link all the pistes perfectly and if you go down the back of the mountain is very easy to get up and back to the front again. Being Italy it is far better value in the cafes for coffee, snacks and lunch than resorts in France, Austria or Switzerland and on a par with Germany. The best resort we have been to in years in 2018 and booked again for 2019. Plan Checrouit is an area half way up that has a lot of Cafes, 2 ski hire shops and many main lifts, hire your kit from here and you leave them overnight in your own dedicated space in the chalet, perfect if you hate walking around in those ski boots and no carrying skis to the car.

Take a car and ski a different resort each day. Alternatively Courmayeur is a great for lift accessed offpiste both of the Yula and Skyway lifts. Best thing is the Italians don't really do offpiste, so fresh tracks for few days after snow.
