Skis change, year on year, but that is only part of the consideration.

After 10 years, you will have changed. Reading between the lines, you are experienced, but do not consider yourself expert. You have aged by 10 years. Are you as fit, strong, mobile as before?

The benefit of renting is that you can start the holiday on a softer ski, then as you regain your previous capabilities, move on to a faster ski.

You can trial skis that you might potentially buy.

I own about 11 pairs of skis, (I had a clear out a few years back), but I still take an occasional hire. It is a good way to keep up to date.

Are you coming out of the closet as a hoarder?

Definitely not, Andy. I am still recognised at our local recycling centre as the guy who chucked 6 pairs of skis in the tip.....

I would say that if you are set on buying skis, don't buy because the ski 'looks' right or nice. Ski on them in both lengths and try other skis suggested by the ski shop. They will ask you to hire them but take the hire costs off the purchase price if you buy.

At least that way you will end up with a ski you get on with and like, plus it will be in the right length for you.

Obviously it's pure choice but I honestly don't no why you would want your own ski's unless you go skiing ample times a year the rental ski's are really good and I've had brand new ski's on most occasions but they are always renewed and upto date.
Would definitely try rental after 10 years out that's a long time you need to get your confidence back good luck though.
