Hi,
I am french, heres is a good tip I think for you.

Chamnonix Vally ...no for the kids
Villars-sur-Ollon defenetly not
L'Alpe-d'Huez too far
Valmeinier you should prefer Valloire very nice resort plenty of activities for kids in the village best family deal in the Alps (best place for self catered appt) see Valloire resa for best deals (appt + skipass + ski rental+ ski lessons). Fits your budget
Les Coches you mean Montchavin les coches? risquy that low for Christmas part of a huge domain but might be quite expensive in the end. Skipass around 230€ -270€ p.p.
Valmorel might be a good idea too, the "typical chalet like resort" not much to do there only one street with shops, St Francois Longchamps which is attached might be cheaper for the appt rental but not as nice...I d prefer Valloire.
Val Thorens . no too expensive though plenty of snow
Alpe d'huez, too far
Montgenevre why not part of a very big resort
Flaine I would choose that one...even in the worst years, skiing is good there, snowfalls are massive there thanks to its position and "micro climate" and the resort is quite big and very modern.
I found something perfect for you...bran new from this year the "all - all inclusive" or all inclusive premium as they call it.
There is a shutle transfer from Geneva to Flaine, easy to take. For the all inclusive check this link ...
(Damn i just noticed it might not ne in english... but you can call them there is the phone number on the main page)

You could also consider Chatel or Avoriaz I mean Les Portes du Soleil, so close from Geneva but the budget is higher than Valloire for sure...

my choice would be
- Valloire (little bit harder to get there but so nice and in your budget)
- Flaine in Le Grand Massif (careful to the buildings you like it or not, achitecture classified in historic monuments)
- Les Portes du Soleil (Avoriaz or Chatel) huge domain close to Geneva

Good luck.

At the risk of being one sided you may consider Courmayeur (1.5hrs)or La Thuile (2 hrs). La Thuile has 3 magic carpets in the town, 2 of which are free if your children are learners. Plus the Lift passes are relatively cheap compared with most French Resorts.
Carving leaves me all on edge

Maybe true for the portes du soleil and flaine but certainely not for Valloire.
Discount in Valloire for 2kids + 2 adults.

I agree with the other respondents, Chamonix is not ideal for beginers. You should have a look at La Rosiere, it would fit all the criteria you've listed, it's also Ski Esprit's most popular resort, so good for kids. There's a central booking service for appartments via the Tourist Office website www.larosiere.net where you find all the information about the resort. It's high - 1850 metres and very snow-sure.
