I loved La Plagne, there's a decent amount a variety and if I was looking it at from a beginners point of view I would be excited by the cruisy blues there are available near the main gondola heading to Les Arcs.
I'm off to the PDS in Feb, and have heard good things. It might not be the highest but my boy will be learning over there so fingers crossed.
If you're a beginner I would steer clear of Chamonix, it is a nice town and with experience it is worth a visit but for someone starting there is nothing worse than being somewhere that is putting you off.
These are only my opinions of course, but if you were looking at the 3 I would go for La Plagne. Good luck in your choosing.

Thanks for all the helpful advice! Are there any hotel or chalet recommendations? We prefer ski in ski out, free wifi and either complimentary breakfast or a chalet where we can make our own. Thanks so much!

Cervinia has a nice little Main Street and not the ugly high rise apartments that dominate in Avioraz.
When in doubt?....Flat out.

Thanks for all the great advice. We are deciding to go to La Plagne but upon reading some piste ratings (green, blue, red, black,etc...) I'm not sure whether or not blue runs would be as easy as expected... We normally ski mostly greens and some blues at Whistler in Canada, so if someone can please give some help in that area? Thanks!

To be honest if easy slopes are your thing you should go to Italy.
When in doubt?....Flat out.
