There are big differences between the methods used by the Austrians and the Japanese (and Koreans) to teach skiing, a Canadian coach compared some of the national skiing styles at the last Interski in 2011.

One of the Korean coaches explained what they do https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHERrKCTq5g
It's very different from the Austrian system https://vimeo.com/62331544
Which lessons did you enjoy the most and which method did you find to be most effective?

Nice to know there are many different styles of ski. During my last trip in Japan, I have gone through few different instructors. I finally had an instructor could communicate in English on the last day. She told me to keep my eyes focused on one object at the end of the slop, don't swift my eye sights to left and right. She taught me to use my lower body to turn, and to maintain my upper body steady, facing the fall line. The Austrian instructor taught me to stand up before my turns, and to swift my weights to my downhill ski by tilting my left or right shoulder. I could understand the Austrian was trying to help me to build a solid foundation before moving forward, but when I was making those big left to right turns on a black and red run, I have to say it was pretty uncomfortable to have lines different from my fellow skiers.

The up motion (extension) that the Austrian instructor was teaching you will not give you a solid foundation, as it disconnects you from the snow. Things soon start to go wrong https://vimeo.com/88334672 The Japanese / Korean techniques will keep you connected to the snow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSmYDlCW9yU lessening the chances of things going wrong.

Ah! Great to know this. Will I be able to have coaching in Japanese/Korean style something similar in Europe?
