'Scare chair' is a common term for scary chairlifts.
In this case it i think it refers to the Auris link which descends into a gorge quite steeply before going up the other side.



There is also another famous Scare chair at val d'isere.
Skied: Arinsal, La Plagne, Alpe D'huez, Flaine, Les Arcs, Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Sauze, Courchevel, Val Thorens

The scare chair has a bit of a gulp as you go down

There is absolutely nothing scarey about that chair. It does give magnificent views and a different perspective looking out across the valley as oppose to the side of the nearest mountain.
Getting off at the bottom caused some people a few problems, but then why would you want to get off at the BOTTOM of La Sarenne anyway?
Its worth going over early, the slopes the other side are lovely.

I love those lifts where you have a choice of getting off or not. Always the fear that your ski will get stuck and snap your ankle backwards :twisted:
