Received in the news office: GB ALPINE CHAMPIONSHIPS CANCELLED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS CONCERNS

GB Snowsport today announced that the GB Alpine Championships 2020 which were due to be held in Tignes, France between March 29 and April 10, 2020 have been cancelled due to the escalating cases of the COVID-19 virus in Europe.

Following weeks of monitoring and taking government advice - both in the UK and France - the GB Snowsport Board convened along with GB Snowsport Chief Medical Officer, Professor Mike Loosemore, to make the decision to protect those competing in - or planning to attend - the event.

Vicky Gosling OBE, Chief Executive Officer of GB Snowsport, said: "GB Snowsport will not put anyone at risk during these times of heightened health concerns and therefore we have taken the sensible and difficult decision to cancel the British Alpine Championships 2020.

"The annual event is a great celebration of British alpine skiing and a real highlight in the season for British athletes. I want to extend my thanks to all those who had worked so hard in planning the event and for the community of Tignes for their continued support."

All athletes, who have entered, have been notified directly and Vicky Gosling added: "We know this is hugely disappointing for all those who had been looking forward to Tignes but GB Snowsport take their responsibility for the well-being of all athletes, officials and spectators extremely seriously.

"Sadly, due to the continuing threat of the COVID-19 virus and the fact that there are no later dates available in the calendar, the Championships will have to be cancelled for 2020.'

This is a fantastic discussion and very prevalent BUT it does not refer to this season and needs to be updated with the LATEST news. Anyone know what's going on?

I am a huge fan of skiing in Italy but I am sadly giving it a bit of a wide birth this season. They are being super careful which is of course really good, but it means the chances of getting a trip there cancelled, having to pay for extra tests and also being kept in quarantine in Italy are abit high for me personally to risk.

It does seem a bit confused still, I suppose whilst we wait to see if the French/German/Italian plan to get all EU/Europe ski slopes closed until January is successful or not. I read the Italian PM had advised Italians not to take a Christmas ski holiday but that may not be the same as the French approach of saying ski lifts must be closed, though I know they are under the current restrictions. Is there an end date yet for the current Italian restrictions or just indefinite now? So far the French resorts say they'll open to tourists, just with no ski lifts running, not-sure what's happening with ski touring/avalanche protection there?

Last Friday the Autonomous Province of Bozen/Bolzano (South Tyrol) introduced a new Coronavirus ordinance (Ordinanza del presidente della Provincia No. 73 del 27/11/2020), in paragraph 40 it states that the ski lifts are to remain closed to recreational skiers. No reopening date is given.

According to reports in the Italian press, the central government in Rome will issue a new Coronavirus decree "DPCM Natale" early this week that will come into force on 4th December. We will have to wait until the text is published to know for sure, but the Italian foreign minister is reported to have said that there will be "No Christmas holidays in the snow".

That's very useful and exactly the information we all need. Thank you.
How can find out when and the details of the decree?
