How much gear do you dare to hide in your ski/board bag on check-in?

I have managed to get flights for under £100 per person to chambery this year for 33 people with free boot and ski carriage, problem is only six people have their own skis & boots.

I have a double concourse bag & was going to put mine & Joanna`s ski`s in that, but then we need to take extra stuff for Junior(21months)
Don`t know whether to by an extra bag and share the weight out or pack the one full.

Any Advice & experience kind people?

We have a double ski bag and last year four times got onto Easyjet flights with two pairs of skis and a selection of clothing in the ski bag which saved weight from the suitcase. Each time we only paid Easyjet for one pair of skis - £18 I think - and they never questioned us.

I also take my ski boots as hand luggage to save weight from the suitcase and they never questioned me on that either.

I usually fly with a couple pairs of skis, boots and as much other stuff as I can pack in. Never had a problem (Jet2, BA, Air Canada in the last few years...)

Last year when I lost a pair of skis from my bag they only handed me the tags to put on the ski bag (two pairs in one bag) & then I took it to the scanner for large items.
I have heard of some airlines weighing the bags before check-in.

Some of the Airlines and Charter Co's have declared that this winter they will be opening ski bags at check in, and levying extra charges on anyone carrying more than 1 pair of skis (for example). It's a earning opportunity for them.

I managed to hide my upper body protection (which itself is pretty heavy) in with my skis, a couple of t-shirts and my salo's
Was over-weighted on my actual bag so I had to spread some weight out, was paranoid they'd have a look in but got away with it :)

i have looked into this quite seriously for my flight to italy next week and a pair of skis is 6kg-with a 22kg allowance on BA and 20kg with the budgets this should leave you plenty of weight for at least 2 (im taking 3( pairs and some soft gear-remember though if you have a bag with wheels they weigh about 5kg themselves

I've always padded my skis out with socks and stuff, never had anyone check before.
