Hi All
I am going to Gosau on the 24th (just can't wait either!!) but was wondering has anyone else been. I was there a few weeks ago but only did the main Gosau slope (which was difficult for my level but got down a couple of times) and the Russbach main slope which we both liked. However there is much more to the resort (140km!) but we only spent one day there so didn't really venture far.
I am looking for a description of the various slopes so I will know what is ahead and if I am able for them.
As I said the main Gosau slope was tricky but not impossible and marked red but also the Russbach was marked red and there was a huge difference. So I am looking for help on comparisons please. Hope this makes sense.....
Regards

I did receive a reply from OHActive.com so here is some information if anyone wants it. Directed towards a beginner intermediate like me.
Thank you Debbie and Trevor!!

We are happy to provide some guidance, but bear in mind this comes from a
very competent intermediate skier.
We would suggest that perhaps there are a number/most runs over at the
Zwieselalm that might be suitable, try;
11, 11a, 15, 15a also run 17 down to Annaberg is long and nice, one bit at 7/10.
Also then 9c (half-way down 9), 5b, 7, and those around the Edtalm.
At the end of the day go to the bottom on 9a, be very careful at the very bottom.

Just a bit of an update - back from Austria and went to a few resorts because there was too much snow, roads were blocked and couldn't get where we wanted for two days. However this did not hinder our holiday (apart from the few bits of nit picking at each other - usual holiday stuff).
We had two beginners with us so it was straight up to Postalm which was only down the road from us. Really fantastic for beginners or for a first day for intermediate to get a lesson and find your feet after a year. I had a one hour lesson and learnt 3 great tips which made the rest of the skiing holiday perfect 'cause I felt I was definitely improving. Did Postalm for two days. Instructors for both beginners and intermediate were great. Not strict to the one or two hours and €75 for 2 hour lesson for two people (beginners) was not bad.
Second day we were stuck because Postalm road was closed due to snow aswell so we went to Kripppenstein Freeride arena - one beautiful 11km run with a few smaller ones at the top but I think this is definitely more geared to the off piste skiers. But enjoyed it all the same. Not much for beginners though and lessons weren't available.
Then we had planned to go to Dachstein West but road between Bad Ischl and Gosau was closed (alternate 2 hour trip was not what we wanted) so we went to Loser. Really beautiful!!! Small enough resort (40km of piste) but great for beginner / intermediates. Lots of challenging reds and one lovely blue. Part of the resort was closed due to avalanche but didn't hinder our experience. Staff in the Ski rental place were really friendly and helpful.

Then off the Dachstein west for the last two days. FANTASTIC!! I would highly recommend it. Our two beginners got a two hour lesson and said the instructor was brilliant and again gave more than the 2 hours. €95 for two people for two hours.
On the first day we went all over the resort which covers 140km of piste with a mix of gondolas 4 and 6 man chair lifts and a few T-bars and button lifts thrown in. Did a black but in hindsight shouldn't have as I really wasn't able (lots of lumps and bumps - moguls I think they are called) but as they say "been there done that". The "last holiday run" we gave it socks and was a great end to a great, if not unplanned at times, holiday.

I hope all this helps as there doesn't seem to be much information on here for those resorts.

Sounds like you had a good time and no shortage of snow! I've been wanting to ski the Krippenstein since it featured in one of Warren Miller's films a year or two back.

about one hour and twenty from Salzburg airport to Krippenstein. You could do it on the cheap aswell though, either bus or train - I think it would be best suited to more advanced skiers than myself and also off piste stuff. But beautiful spot to go and see, I am glad we ended up there for the day.

My Sister has a B+B about 1km from the cable car station at the Krippenstein. If you saw an English ski-instructor either there or at Rossbach, that was probably my brother/in-law.

Nice skiing, but also well worth visiting in the summer. Huge ice caves near the middle station, which are well worth seeing (music, lights, the works), and over the lake in Hallstadt was the last salt mine in Austria, which is an excellent place to go round. Have to wear some really naff overalls though !
