Hi

Anyone got any experience of this resort, mainly in terms of the ski area, snow record, ease of getting about, lifts etc.
Its a serious option for a trip next season.

Many thanks

Post obviously got lost in the trouble of the other day!

Went there 07 season which was a dodgy one so not all skiing down to valley was available but all was open to midway.

Bad Gastein is split in two ski areas on either side of the valley which the village is built in!
Graukokogel (sp?) and stubnerkogel where its possible to access the area of bad hofgastein.

A 20 min ride away is the area of sportgastein which is the glacier. This had great snow last year so i guess its fine here all years. ( i think if you look at snow etc on this website it has some of the most in austria this year!)

We stayed in the salzburger hof with crystal and it was a lovely hotel favourite by far on all ski holidays great position just a couple minutes walk to ski hire shop where you could leave equipment over right and opposite ski slopes.

Don't think i'd go back again only cos i've skiied it all except Dorfgastein cos snow was bad there and by the friday of our week i was bored and couldn't be bothered to ski anymore, don't think this was helped by my ski boots hurting!

Nice pretty sights though!

Hope that waffling helps a little!

Hi

I have been to Bad Gastein / Bad Hofgastein 4 times and will be going again at Christmas. Good all round skiing mainly reds. Very efficient ski buses. Can also go to Sportsgstein as previously noted (2600m quite steep runs) and also Dorfgastein 25 mins from Bad Gastein, 10 from Bad Hofgastein.

1hr taxi transfer from Salzburg 2.75 hrs from Munich. Also train possible never used it as always got a good taxi deal.

We have stayed in both Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein. We are a family and Bad Hogastein has better access to bus station and funicular onto mountain just opposite bus station. Village very pretty and accessable. Easy to get around. The village is flat and the centre is 400 - 600 yards from the bus station / funicular.

Bad Gastein probably livelier and more apres ski options. Some areas of town hilly and access to mountain good but not as good as at Bad Hofgastein.

The main ski area is the same for both Bad Gastein and Bad Hofgastein.
