This was a painting I did about 10 seasons ago, of the view that is depicted in the bottom photo.

Hi Dave, thanks for replying.

We are staying at The Staffler in town. We went in Feb this year and had a great time, hence coming back with the family. I though this hotel was a great location for the lifts etc. Our children are 7 and 10 and have skied about 4 times. At this stage, where do you think the ski school would be, still in niederau? If only light snow continues to fall until then, will we still be ok as the temps are low and they can make snow....? My sister and her family also want to book private lessons as they've not skied for about 6 years. Also wondering whether to hire a car from Salzburg rather than booking a transfer a May need to get around more if snow not great. They do guiding at the hotel which was great, over at the ski welt. Any advice you can give would be great. I do feel better after speaking to Yana at the Staffler as she said we would be able to ski.

Your painting is awesome!!!!

I'm off to St Anton on the 24th Jan. I'm just gonna get my snow dancing shoes out... Plenty of time yet...

Dopy me, I forgot Yana, with the hotel/lady link ~ and I had a great morning skiing with her last January! She is an amazingly fit lady.

You have stayed there before, so you know how customer/ski orientated they are. They cater for every standard ~ to the point of hosting the Elite Racing Ski School. They employ a couple of trainers, and an amazing bunch of people on their staff + I skied with many of them last season, including skiing down in the dark with two of them.

In the event that the local snow is not so good, guests are transported to the best locally available snow. So have no fears about that.

The children will be steered in the right direction. My tuppenceworth is put them into the Reds ski school. (Face Book, Ski School The Reds) This is run by Sepp Schellhorn, who I used to work for.

For your friends who have not skied for a while, my TW is, they will almost certainly make good and consistent progress if they go into ski school, unless they are very good skiers ~ there is a good Sunday morning sorting process, and if they are good skiers, they will be shunted into better groups.

It is certainly worth having a look at car hire from Salzburg. We are there for just over two weeks in mid Jauary, and I have booked a 9 seater minibus, (from Munich), my younger son has booked a a 5 seat estate car from Salzburg. He will easily cover his transfer costs. My passengers will save more than half what the minibus hire is costing me, and we plan to buy a big area lift pass, (Allstar), allowing us to ski in many other areas, including a visit to the Hahnemkamm.

I find that pricing through Auto Europe gives a good price. (In fact I have hired for the past 12 years through them).

My pm seems to have gone awol, no worries. If you have any more specific questions, fire away.

I was in Hochgurgl last week with a number of people that were diverted from St Anton. Plenty of snow
