Courmayeur may not be one of the largest resorts but is certainly one of the best and doesn't get to crowded especially in the week; it caters for all abilities with around 30 pistes from the main area at plan checrouit, around a third of them easy blues. There are around 25 lifts of various types which link all the pistes perfectly and if you go down the back of the mountain is very easy to get up and back to the front again. Being Italy it is far better value in the cafes for coffee, snacks and lunch than resorts in France, Austria or Switzerland and on a par with Germany. The best resort we have been to in years in 2018 and booked again for 2019. Plan Checrouit is an area half way up that has a lot of Cafes, 2 ski hire shops and many main lifts, hire your kit from here and you leave them overnight in your own dedicated space in the chalet, perfect if you hate walking around in those ski boots and no carrying skis to the car.

I have skied the dolomite as my first ski trip every season early jan for the last 15plus years selva val gardena is fantastic skiing but the lift from town is a bit steep for beginners so I would head for corvara if you have kids with you
