Don't make your mind up about a place if you've never been there, reseach it further before you decide or maybe even go :D

Hi Rasca,

dont get me wrong, I enjoyed Slovakia & I could have explored more resorts etc but in terms of what I actually experienced at that High Tatras resort I wasnt particularly impressed.

It is quite pretty, the beer was cheap (at that time) and it was a good way for me to learn skiing without getting too lost or out of my depth but its not the amazing undiscovered bargain I was hoping it would be.

I'm in no way slagging-off Eastern Europeans or their serving attitude. My missus is Czech so I've been back a forth quite a bit to Czech / Slovakia and she agrees as do all of her friends that the service there is still a bit old fashioned in what we're used to in the West. Doesnt mean they're rude or bad people etc, they just havent adopted the niceties you come to expect from western service culture.

Sorry if I sounded a bit opinionated folks -nothing worse than some mingmong shooting his mouth off (fingers off?) about something they know nothing about, I was just trying to give an impression of that area :-)

I still think that for the relative costs involved - you're looking at better 'ski fun per £' from the Alps & Pyrenees etc.

Just my humble opinion.. (and I dont know everything  )

Cheers,
Lee

Hey Lee

Cheers for the comments. I would agree that each resort in high tatras, on its own, is small but when you put them together i think the experience would be something you wouldn't find in the alps apart from Jasna which is comparable to the alps. It has definetly got slightly more expensive with the introduction of the euro but it's still considerably cheaper. Slovakia is a different kettle of fish, skiing or boarding wise, and i think you need to approach it in a different way. I far prefer visiting slovakia and as i can travel around and check out lots of different areas very cheaply, i don't care what anyone says, no matter how cheap the deal, you simply can't do that for the same price in the alps. I would recommend it to anyone but don't expect the package holiday feel that you may get in the alps or the prices! Tony H slag it off as much as you want but you will more than likely go there at some point probably when the prices are higher and the slovaks will be more than happy to accomodate you. :D

I havent slagged it off, I have just dismissed it as somewhere not suitable for me to go. Too small in their own right, thats all.
