Lofer in Austria, traditional village, check out Bergfex, it is listed on there. Great resort for beginners /intermediates, no big tour groups go, and it is where the British Ski Team used to be based. 40 minutes from Salzburg. Reasonable prices, a nice friendly mix of Scandinavians and East Europeans, well worth a look, our 6th visit shortly.
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

Hello I am sorry to hear about the injury - I too injured myself and needed surgery, after which my confidence is gone, which is bad because i live in Austria and run a business here too. However I am back skiing , and I live in Leogang - ( previously Kaprun) and our location is perfect for the largest linked area in Austria , and even when it is very busy ( like the past weeks ) there are runs I did this week and did not see more than a dozen people on a 7km run. That is great for building confidence when you are not bombarded from behind with crowds of boarders and skiers. Out of high season the area is well big enough to cope with the amount of guests in the region, as I said it is vast so plenty of space for everyone with a good mix of blues and reds. If you need more help please get in touch with me, I can also recommend some good instructors who can offer you help in rebuilding your confidence, it is quite silly that with an instructor you just feel so much safer !

The Dolomites are stupendous! no squat toilets and didn't find the lifts bad either, much more reasonable to eat out on the mountain, will probably always ski in Italy from now on.

Years ago I was in Santa Caterina (where there are no squat toilets) & was discussing with the hotel owner, Giovanni, the rickety old lift in the village & the ghastly drag lifts & comparing it to the Sella Ronda in the Dolomites. The Dolomites are in the Sud Tirol are which until 1919 was part of Austria.

Giovanni quite somberly explained that to keep people in Sud Tirol happy & to avoid any conflict the government would throw a lot of money there & that Santa Caterina didn't get this financial assistance & couldn't afford to upgrade the lift systems as they do in the Dolomites.

Yes, quite right, Süd-Tirol is an autonomous region within Italy. I believe they're allowed to keep their revenue without paying any taxes to the
central government thus being able to invest in the local (ski) infrastructure etc
Sadly, the other Italian ski resorts suffer significantly with luck of funding...

Didn't know that Sud-Tirol is an autonomous region. Thanks, Cazzz and Flat Country skier. Mind you, I'd take the miserably underfunded La Thuile over La Rosiere any day of the week (* - I have no idea if the Italian government throws lots of cash at the Aosta Valley autonomous region :) ).

I really can't recall any squat and drops on the Milky Way having been there a couple of times in the last 10 years.
Lift systems not too bad although the drag lift out of Sansicario is a pain.
